BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines

Ryanair reducing frequencies on certain routes (W1617 vs S17) from Brussels and of course NO offial statement from FR. With other airlines it doesn't bother me, but FR only shows the inflated good news. Can't remember the exact frquencies of last summer, but some seem to be less then last summer as well.

Winter 1617 vs Summer 17
SXF 21 weekly reduces to 17 weekly (and EZY stopping this route on top of that)
HAM 14 weekly reduces to 1 daily
DUB 18 to 16 weekly
OPO 9 to 7 weekly (no more VY)
LIS 14 to 13 weekly (no more VY)
AGP no change
ALC increases 5 weekly to 6 weekly (not even daily during high season?)
MAD 14 to 12 weekly
IBZ seasonal 5 weekly July and August (remember it being daily last few years)
PMI 3 to 7 weekly
VLC 5 to 7 weekly
BCN 19 to 21 weekly
FCO 21 to 16 weekly (no more VY)
MXP 14 to 12 weekly (EZY stopping this one too)
Treviso 7 to 4 weekly
MLA no change
LCA no change

When I exclude Ibiza and Grenoble since they are seasonal only, I count 19 weekly departures less in summer than this winter (if I counted correctly). Seems they won the fight against EZY and VY and now will start reducing their programme too to increase prices...

FR is reducing SXF, HAM, OPO, LIS, MAD, FCO, MXP...all SN destniations ( except ALC and BCN )
FR is increasing PMI, VLC no SN destinations...Should SN compete vs FR on all FR destinations ?

Interesting News... it maybe shows that SN does a bit more than just resist vs the LCC competition, what do you think ?

SN is offering quite cheap faes to their European destinations, but they are more expensive than the LCC. The difference is probably a little bit the service on board, but I think the biggest reason for the persistence of SN is the fact that most people fly with a brand they know and don't want to change for a few euros...

A major factor is also frequency and schedule! I used to be a very loyalo FR customer between CRL and TSF as they had convenient early morning and late evening flights, Now it's an afternoon flight from both CRL and BRU (if I'm not mistaken) so I switched to SN, a bit more expensive, but still reasonable and with a good schedule!

One change I know of is that they have switched the daily evening Dublin rotation from a Dublin based aircraft to a Brussels based aircraft.

And they will get more expensive with less competition on certain routes. As far as I know though, FR is not pulling any aircraft out of BRU

But Ryanair can reduce the number of flights without having to remove any aircraft from the BRU base by using the BRU based aircraft on the route where aircraft from other base was used previously, Dublin is an example.

But what is an evidence (if those reduced service are confirmed) is that Ryanair will be less present in BRU, it will be compensated with CRL I guess

They are really big & Latin America is on the rise.

Big Middle Class (growing) especially in Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador...
Brazil I do not know.

Europeans are also discovering more and more the charms of this continent.

Flights to/from BRU would certainly be successful, given central location of BRU.

LATAM is OneWorld. Could be hurdle ???

I would say that with U2 and YV leaving some routes, there is no reason to have as many flights on some routes and thus profitability is probably better with less flights. In the end they're not primarily after SN, but after U2 and (especially) VY. Getting them out of the way ensures profitability of current routes and you can redeploy your assets to other flights which are either more profitable and/or are strategically more important.
