Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Why this mystery ?
Have new aircraft been ordered by Brussels Airlines, or not ?
Or will they all be old second-hand aircraft ?

IF IT AIN'T BOEING, I'M NOT GOING.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Of course they will not order new aircraft ... Why would they (they never bought aircraft so far)? Moreover, with what money?
I still am a little bit puzzled about the current fleet utilisation. It is said that the current 8 A330 are used at maximum. But I checked the daily flights over the past week and come up with followin utilisation:
FR 7
SA 6
SU 7
MO 6
TE 6
WE 6
TH 6
I would have expected to have 7 planes used each day, and one spare aircraft. Is there currently a maintenance (D-check, C-check) ongoing?
Cheers,
Danny

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
For the moment some of the aircraft are on Check, normally there are between 7 and 8 flight per day when the aircraft are not flying they are in maintenance. To andere to your question, this won't be brand new aircraft but saying "old" is not true neither for exemple the aircraft coming from Mexicana where only 2 years old for exemple but no it will not be factory new aircraft.DannyVDB wrote:Of course they will not order new aircraft ... Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Though, when they are leasing 2 year old a/c they are very much nearing factory new. So in a few years time they should be able to get some fresh metal off their own. Or is that a bit too optimist?crew1990 wrote: For the moment some of the aircraft are on Check, normally there are between 7 and 8 flight per day when the aircraft are not flying they are in maintenance. Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Hi,
Why that push for factory new planes instead two years old...
Two years old ? thats NEW in aviation !
I prefer to see OWN operaed planes instead of planes operated by BMI,FLYBE, with own crew, pilots , etc...
I hope that SN can stay in Bromma!
Thats a point they can not let go in my eyes...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
True, but by having A/C that you did not order yourself, you get a very mixed fleet. Yes, they all look the same, but they aren't. That brings higher costs in terms of maintenance and stocking parts. So by setting a standard yourself, and ordering all A/C the same, your efficiency goes up, and the cost goes down. I am sure it will happen some day, but all in good time.cathay belgium wrote:Hi,

I think it might be different for the long haul, you don't change planes so easily than with the short haul planes.DannyVDB wrote:Of course they will not order new aircraft ... Why would they (they never bought aircraft so far)? Moreover, with what money?

So it might be a order of new planes ...

http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a319-1086.htm thought SSC was in OSR for a maintenance but it's mentioned as stored ? anyone got more info about this ?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
As far as I know, SSC is still part of the fleet. It wouldn't be the first time for airfleets to be slightly off point.

Hi,
Stored... if so SN doesn't follow the *A rules by having at least ONE *A plane in the fleet!
If so... they have to repaint another, new?, one quick !

They've prbably mixed it up with SSP, which they still list as active.CTBke wrote:http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a319-1086.htm thought SSC was in OSR for a maintenance but it's mentioned as stored ? anyone got more info about this ?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Meanwhile, a whole batch of new OO-SSx registrations has been reserved for the additional airbuses which will join the fleet: basically every letter remaining. Oh, and some more even, because it's going to be more than just a handful, remember...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Sorry, but can't resist ...
Based on my imagination and gutt feelings I think the following will happen:
On the long haul expansion, in the short term (beginning of the summer season 2016) - 1 additional A330 is a given. I would say that another two will become reality on the short term (later during the year) if and only if Jet Airways will leave BRU.
What can they do with that one A330?
First they wil use more intensively the current fleet of 8 A330 just as they did during the summer of 2015: resume 5/week to Washington and change the Kinshasa-Douala flight to Kinshasa and a sixth Yaounde-Douala. That would leave them with one spare flight with the original 8 planes (if they use the fleet in the same manner as this year: 5 days 7 flights and 2 days 8 flights).
Then I would (I know I am not a fleet planner
) add:
- 3flights/week to Lagos-Libreville
- 5 flights/week to Boston
This would be possible because of the above assumptions ...
If Jet Airways would leave, then I think that SN might add 2 additional A330:
- To start 5flights/week to Montreal and AC taking over Toronto
- To start 4 flights/week to Mumbai
- To add 2 flights/week to Washington and make it year round
- To add one flight/week to Kinshasa (to have it daily)
And end up with one spare aircraft on a daily basis ... (instead of 6 days/week)
[I have many more dreams and wishes but for that you need yet another aircraft
]
Kind regards,
Danny

OK let's play the gametolipanebas wrote:Meanwhile, a whole batch of new OO-SSx registrations has been reserved for the additional airbuses which will join the fleet: basically every letter remaining. Oh, and some more even, because it's going to be more than just a handful, remember...
For the OO-SSx, which is only used for A319 so far - if I understand well - we still have some numbers left (of course maybe they are used for other aircraft already?):
OO-SSJ
OO-SSL
OO-SSO
OO-SSS
OO-SST
OO-SSX
OO-SSY
OO-SSZ
Many more are available in the OO-SNx series for the A320 and the OO-SFx series for the A330
Personally I thought that more than a handful would be 5+1, so 6
Cheers,
Danny
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Adding one A330 to a fleet of 30 year old airplanes is not going to solve the AOG mess that pops up every now and then. What is needed is a complete replacement of the LH fleet by new(er) airplanes.
