Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
Going quickly through this regulation, I come to the conclusion that this is not the "EU decision" imposed on BRU forcing it to apply stricter security measures.
I will repeat in short what I said in this thread on 27 May : because security agents at BRU got critized in an international (EU ?) audit because they did not apply the same rules to airport staff they know as tho passengers, and because they got ticked on their fingers, security agents have decided to react in a childish way and have decided to apply every rule in the book (also the ones which are optional like requiring pax to take off their shoes). Instead of reacting like adults and admitting their faults and changing their behavior, they reacted like little brats and decided to take out their anger on to the passengers. This is my analysis of the situation based on the info I have seen/read. You may, of course, correct me if I am wrong.

In favor of quality air travel.

Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
You are quite right Air Key West.
What they have done with the fast lane and the way the are currently treating passengers is indeed extremely poor while sub contractors have no problem to get an unlimited access to the aiport for two months. I also share this feeling that they are taking their frustration on some of us passengers.
By the way, Lufthansa F lounge in FRA has its own security down in the basement before you are boarding the limo taking you to the plane. When are we going to have this in BRU ? the Munich F lounge has also its own immigation officer. Lufthansa please come to the rescue.

Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
Has the chaos been resolved and are queues back to normal? I have got a (Schengen) flight tonight at 20:30, and was wondering when to arrive at the airport...
Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
My last 4 trips (since early July) : queues very short; message boards with flash text showing "waiting time from here 20' " (or 40') were still on, but it took hardly 5 minutes.SmilingBoy wrote:Has the chaos been resolved and are queues back to normal? Is the Security Check so much more efficient than before, or are there simply less and less and less passengers ???
BRU really has become the quietest airport in this part of Europe.
They still manage to keep you waiting 45 minutes for your bags.
Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
Good news then. This means that pax knows then that they should arrive on time and take messures on security check.JOVAN wrote: My last 4 trips (since early July) : queues very short; message boards with flash text showing "waiting time from here 20' " (or 40') were still on, but it took hardly 5 minutes.
.
The people of the security can tell you that why. You wrote: "less and less and less pax", please don't start again this. Brussels Airport is hit very hard in the business section, that's true and that's also not a secret. But there are European airports with dramatic figures and European airports with figures like Brussels Airport and there we can say that those are the biggest airports of Europe.JOVAN wrote:[

If you don't know it: BRU IS a quiet airport -> see the billboards
But don't worry I know what you mean
Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
departed in June to Zurich and was through in , I don' t remember, I think 30 seconds?
departed in July to Abu Dhabi and now there was anounced during check in a major delay, so it would better we would join the zig zag line.
Result:
pasport control: < 1 minute
walk to terminal: 5 minutes
zigzag took 7 minutes. Bleep for some metallic parts, belt and shoes of, again bleep, personell control, and through in - I guess, 1 minute ?
Serious suggestion:
in case that security control would take really a lot of time, ( 8 minutes is bearable
) could the airport authority not install here and there a kind of time indicatio nshowing how many minutes it takes? You see it in large cities, how long it takes to get to major exits. And in large airports they do also show how long it takes to walk to the other terminals.
This could create income for the airport services, so people stay longer in the more expensive restaurants and duty free shopping, instead of joining a short security line.

What you're suggesting is useless in BRU for the reason you state. At concourse B people can see the waiting line from the shopping area and at concourse A the shopping area is behind the security check.regi wrote: Serious suggestion:

Ok for the A pier, but it's not because you can see the line, that you know how long it takes to get through.Conti764 wrote: What you're suggesting is useless in BRU for the reason you state. Re: Security chaos at Brussels last night
No, but if people are seeing a 'full house' at the security screening, they are less likely to go to the shops, since they expect to be in for a long qeue for security. If they see an empty or less full qeue, they are more likely to go to the shops and buy something.SN_fan wrote:Ok for the A pier, but it's not because you can see the line, that you know how long it takes to get through.Conti764 wrote: What you're suggesting is useless in BRU for the reason you state. also for families who leave relatives behind: if you have plenty of time left over, you can go upstairs and have a meal or drink together before departure with the relatives who can not pass by passport control because they have no boarding pass.
