World Air Routes - My Reviews

Post by Comet »

I have got two World Air Routes DVDs - Intersky Dash 8 and SN Brussels Airlines A330. Here are my reviews of both DVDs.

Image

The Intersky Dash 8 operates flights from Bern to (on the DVD) Altenrhein, Elba, Friedrichshafen, Berlin, Cologne, Paris CDG and Vienna. There is some superb filming on this programme, especially involving an air-to-air flight with two Dash 8s through the Swiss mountains, some hair-raising stuff and some beautiful views en route! There is the usual cockpit presentation, an external walkround of the Dash 8, a glimpse of cabin service on the small prop and a look at the emergency training provided to the cabin crews. This film features airports you would not normally see, especially the tiny Bern airport, London City is bustling by comparison! An interesting interlude is a walkround of a characterful hotel in Bern! I loved this DVD, a complete contrast to the larger A330 aircraft in the other one.

Image

This carrier needs no introduction  This too was an absorbing DVD to watch. Featured routes are: Brussels-Freetown-Abidjan, Abidjan-Brussels, Brussels-Dakar-Banjul, Banjul-Dakar-Brussels. There were some good views provided inflight, and a detailed description of the flightdeck instruments. The cabin presentation was great, detailed information about how the systems such as temperature, lighting and the inflight information screens are controlled. Also the meals shown in business class looked good. And the purser shown on the DVD looked very much like the guy from our first Sabena flight! This is a must-buy for all SN Brussels (and Sabena) fans. I loved this programme

In the future I will add to my small collection of World Air Routes DVDs because they are so absorbing and even the presentations of the smaller aircraft are truly fascinating. It makes you want to be a pilot!

That one will be well worth watching, I have loads of downloaded movies of St Maarten approaches. I always remember seeing that film of the sunbathers on the beach being blown down to the sea by the blast from a jet

I don't normally answer for Comet, but I can answer this one.

We bought the DVDs at Manchester Airport spotters shop. I bought the SNBA one and it cost me £21.99 (I think Louise paid the same for hers). We got them when we went spotting last Tuesday. (Sorry I don't have the price in Euros)

I've got the Air Nostrum one on order. That features the Dash 8, ATR and CRJ ( :jump2: ) and shows the route to MAN which is now discontinued.

Review when I've seen it.

That's a good list Marc. The Sabena one (box) is high on my list to get sometime, would really bring those memories back. Would be especially good if it featured an aircraft I'd been on.

Sorry Advisor, that would be breach of copyright, could get into trouble if we did that.

Try this link http://www.justplanes.com/ they might have some clips on there, as they are the producers of the DVDs.

Today, my Air Nostrum DVD arrived.

Image

This is a good DVD, featuring the CRJ, ATR72 and Dash 8. The routes are Spanish ones with the exception of the now-discontinued Madrid-Manchester-Madrid. The weather is Spanish sun, with thee xception of Manchester, where it is wind and rain and you see the rain covering the windscreen of the CRJ as it accelerates, and the windscreen wipers doing a good job of clearing it away  It shows a large selection of British charter carriers in the MAN sequences, which are obviously being blown about as they come in to land.

The Spanish scenes often show other Iberia aircraft taxying past, or just parked. One section of the programme was filmed in the cabin of the aircraft instead of mainly (or exclusively) the flightdeck. There is a female co-pilot featured, a credit to Air Nostrum.

For those who adore the Iberia CRJ, Spanish airports or Iberia in general, then this is for you.

Still makes me wish I was a pilot

Watched more of Air Nostrum last night. The beginning shows the maintenance hangar, with a CRJ being extensively worked on and a speech from the airline boss.

The approach and touchdown at MAN shows the Concorde, but the date on the pilot's chart showed 11th April 2003, before the Concorde arrived for display. We had been wondering when that bit was made, knowing that Air Nostrum stopped serving MAN last July or August. Also shown at MAN is our old friend the Dash 8 with the tartan tail.

I could not believe how quiet the CRJ cockpit seemed compared to other jet types I have seen on the DVDs. The CRJ is a speedy little aircraft so it must have some powerful powerplants on there.

It was great to see the Air Nostrum fleet again, even though it was only "virtual". They no longer go to MAN, they don't serve BHX and I honestly don't know about BRU anymore. Their CRJs with their cheerful, high-vis scheme were one of my favourite spotting sights and I miss seeing them alot

Thanks sab, I just checked on that. There is a CRJ due in BRU at 13:10 on the Wednesday and the Friday that I am there, as we will be spotting in the week this time, instead of Sunday. I am going to bag that CRJ one way or another.

WAR did a great job by re-releasing the Sabena box. Wonderful job! I own the United 777 DVD (very nice also, great pilots!) and the Goodjet. Too bad the last got bankrupt (like so many  )

I would like to ask you to keep writing reviews, it's very interesting, I want to keep buying these great DVD's!

I will get the Sabena one too sometime. I will keep writing the reviews of the DVDs, I just need more DVDs as I only have the three I've written about at the moment. I will take a look in the enthusiasts shop at BHX, they have a brilliant selection because it is a massive shop.

Here is my review of Goodjet. I think not many of you will know this airline.

This Swedish low cost airline was found in just 3 months time. They operate from Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo and Malmo to several destinations in France, Spain and Scandinavia.

This 105min DVD handles flights from Gothenburg - Beauvais - Gothenburg + Gothenburg - Nice - Gothenburg / Malmo - Nice - Malmo + Malmo - Beauvais - Nice / Torp - Beauvais - Nykoping.

Somewhere in the middle of the DVD there is a chat with the CEO of GoodJet where he explains how the airline is founded, what the goal is and what the future plans are.

I think the DVD is quite good, cockpit explanation from the captain and some nice wingviews. The nice landscape of about all the airports make this a very nice DVD. I would give it a 7.5 / 10

UNITED 777 Review

I will be very clear : this is one of the best DVD's I've seen so far. The 777 will be one of the reasons why I like this DVD a lot, but also the fantastic crew did their part!

You will see an introduction by the captain of the flight from Chicago to London. After that the captain goes and see his crew for the day, there is a full meeting with different kind of people, never saw this before.

After the external walkaround, you will see a beautiful piece of technology and innovation : the way the crew gets their Flight Plan for the flight. This is so great!

The captain gives a very good and clear tour of the cockpit of the B777. Also very nice. Then the arrival into London and the flight back to Chicago, with great cockpit and cabin views!

As said before : One of the best DVD's I own, resulting in a nice 9 / 10. Great job WAR!

Thanks for sharing those nice reviews, Comet & Airbus_fan.
The DVD's sound very interesting, especially the part where the CEO of Goodjet talks. :D

Let's see if I can get some for a reasonable price when I'm at Schiphol.

Those two sound great Airbus_fan. I think this is a good thread because many people are into those DVds and it helps to find out which are the good ones. I wanted the Austrian A330 as well but I was told on an Austrian forum that it was not such a good one.

I wouldn't mind the Air Alps sometime, that should have some spectacular scenery.
