Het transport zal geschieden per Boeing 767-200 van een in Zwitserland geregistreerde Eritrese luchtvaartmaatschappij.

I wonder a) if they ever fly and b) if they fly how long it will take before they go bankrupt. We've seen many airlines/touroperators who try to set up flights between Paramaribo and Europe (usually Brussels) but all failed.

BTW has anyone a clue which Swiss registered Eritrean airline has a 767-200? Eritrean Airlines (the only Eeritrean ailine who flies a B767-200) is an Eritrean company. However, Eriitreans 767-200 does have 205 seats

According to an e-mail I received last year KLM has the only traffic rights on Amsterdam - Paramaribo thus higher prices for passengers, but other airlines may start charter-operations from e.g. Brussels to Paramaribo when they like. I remember very well that Citybird used to fly to Paramaribo (het leven zoals het is op de luchthaven)

How many B767 registered in Switzerland do you know?
I know this one: HB ISE 767-3Q8
Eigentümer International Lease Finance, 8058 Zurich, CH
Halter Belair Airlines AG, 8058 Zurich, CH

But there is this one: Image and Eritrean Airlines has a dutch website.

(Few things changed I suppose since I was Sabena Rep , also for that area.... )

Don't focus too much on the "Swiss registered" and the "205 seats". Journalists sometimes make mistakes, like this South African newsper just did:

Mystery of actor Wesley Snipes' SA passport - June 17, 2005 - By Poloko Tau

Hollywood star Wesley Snipes was curiously using a South African passport when he tried to leave South Africa on June 1. According to documents in The Star's possession, Snipes was held and questioned at Johannesburg International Airport, resulting in his missing an Air France flight to Switzerland, before he was allowed to board a Kenya Airways flight later that night to Geneva. Snipes had apparently been on holiday in South Africa. The South African passport bears Snipes' South African ID number, his full name and his photograph. But the ID number on the passport is false, according to both the Home Affairs Department and Independent Electoral Commission websites.

Two errors about the flights! Air France is flying from Jo'burg to Paris only, not to Switzerland. And Kenya Airways is flying from JNB to Nairobi only, not to Geneva (or in codesharing with KLM: to Amsterdam) (GVA probably was final destination).

Journalists aren't really that correct about those kind of details most of the time.
But in this case: why would anyone care that he was transferring in Paris or Nairobi? The journalist was writing an article, not a tripreport.

Precisely, well-informed journalists read Luchtzak and vv. Get it checked @Luchtzak!

Don't forget they do fly this in coop with SLM. SLM is also flying this route with a ex KLM 747.

Is there really enough demand from within Belgium for flights to Paramaribo? It's not exactly an exotic holiday location, is it? It looks to me like these flights will depend almost entirely on Dutch people with roots in Surinam or Surinam nationals living in Holland. I don't think you could even fill a 747 with all Surinam people living in Belgium. The only Belgian-Surinam person I know of is Alida Neslo, but apart from her...

True, but you can atract people from The Netherlands (Eindhoven, Tilburg, Breda, Maastricht, ...) who have closer relationships with Suriname (also business) in addition to people which originate from Suriname ... Sometimes it is easier to go to BRU than to AMS.

Citybird's Paramaribo flights were almost entirely filled with passengers to/from the Dutch market. SIVA will probably focus on that market as well ?

Ah, that's all right then. Especially if they manage to go well below the prices charged by KLM and SLM.

If they doubt about filling the plane, they also could make it a combined flight with a stopover somewhere in the region (as compared to what SNBA is doing in Africa). Or is this too costly?

Ladies and gentlemen,

Surinam International Victory Airline will indeed inaugurate a weekly flight between Paramaribo and Brussels on Friday the 1st of July. Dutch pax will be bussed to and from Brussels Zaventem Airport free of charge, from various Dutch cities.

The outbound schedule BRU-PBM : 15h00 LT dep. and 20h00 LT arr.
The inbound schedule PBM-BRU : 09h00 LT dep. and 18h00 LT arr. next day.

I assume that the aircraft will make a night stop in Paramaribo, and will be ferried in and out of Brussels from Eritrean Airlines its European destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Milan or Rome.

The aircraft is not at all registered in Switzerland. The press mixed that up with the maintenance of the aircraft, which is done by a Swiss company. SIVA will wet-lease a B762 ER from Eritrean Airlines (ER-AAQ). This is a former Qantas aircraft. It entered service in December 1985 as VH-EAM.

I hope things are a bit clearer now?
