Malaysia Airlines apply for Skyteam, Air France says NO?

Post by cathayoneworld »

I saw a post in the Airwise Discussion Forum.
"AF says NO to MH SkyTeam entry; wants TG; MH eyes oneworld "

This post mentions that Malaysia has appiled for Skyteam entry. However,

- KLM welcomes MH entering Skyteam. But KLM's partner, Air France, is not happy and say NO.

- Air France wants Thai International Airways to leave Star Alliance and join Skyteam.
( I found that Air France was trying to get Thai into Skyteam after Singapore Airlines entering Star Alliance in 2000. Thai was unhappy at that time. )

- Air France isn't happy for MH entry to Skyteam and MH wants to join Oneworld instead if it can't enter Skyteam.

Is this true??? :? I think that MH is quite a good fit for Oneworld. Cathay Pacific is lacking flights which link Australia, Southeast Asia & Europe.

there is no room for MAS in Oneworld next to CX. That's exactly the same problem when SQ joined Star. Eventually MAS will enter Skyteam, because of lack of a proper carrier in that region for Skyteam. What i heard was that AF's board was against the join of MAS due to difference in opinion with the board of MAS.

Thai also isn't interesting of exiting *Alliance due to high costs. At the moment TG is doing fine with SQ next to them.

Future full member carriers in Skyteam:

JJ (TAM)
MH (Malaysian)

associate members:

Copa
Kenya airways
Tarom
Air Europe

Will TAM enter skyteam? :? TAM has recently ended its relationship with Air France and got closer with American Airlines. I think TAM will enter oneworld soon

TG + SQ + MH in STAR = Waaaayyyy too crowded in S.E Asia IMO. The added value of MH to the existing STAR network would be inexistent.

Even if I'm 100% agree with you, may I remind we have here in Europe the exact counter-example (LH + OS + LX + LO + BM + TP + SK + JK) as a matter of fact.

Absolutely.

...but LX and OS are LH's b!thes, then you got SK and BM. The others are just figurants.
