Yo,
Just saw in the news that All Nipon is preparing to start non stop flights from Brussels to Tokyo.
If there's somebody who has more info let me know

Indeed, Prince Filip and Marc Verwilghen reached a deal with All Nippon Airways to start BRU-TYO non stop from beginning next year.
Great news!

Very good news indeed. Was it on the news tonight? Because the site of ANA is only going to June 7.

No it's not a joke. It was said on belgian TV this evening.

According to this topic: https://www.aviation24.be/posts9374-start60.html they filed the request to fly BRU-NRT for BRU-NGO as well.

It would be great to see BRU connected with Japan again. Let's hope this one will be a real announcement.

I expect SNBA will also play its role. Most probably a code sharing ?

No decission has been taken, you guys have to dream a little less. So now back to earth and wait for another 2 or 3 months to have some news about both new EUR and US routes ex JP.
BTW 747 is no option...

747 or 777

Post by AirDupont »

NH will come with 747's or 777's as they don't take any risk. That's why at this moment they're still flying with 747's to Europe at the moment. They rather fly on 4 engines then on 2 over Syberia. We were told this in the training

Guess the 747 also has a higher cargo payload ? Might be an important aspect due lack of direct cargo link between BRU and Japan.

I'm still a bit sceptic though. This story comes the same way as the one about the China link: from an economic mission to the country, with a politician stating we will have a new airlink. Still nothing's clearer about the Chinese one after all those months...

I second that. We must be very careful with these propaganda-like messages.

Anyway, I thougt it was predicted for the end of next year and not the beginning? :?:

The truth will be on both sides. However to my feeling since the bankruptcy of Sabena and the take over of BRU by the Australians there's definitely a new wind blowing at BRU. Both the industrial and the political world seem to be aware now of the potential and necessity of long haul connections at BRU. Moreover they also focus on regions other than Africa.
The CEO of SNBA recently went to Japan, not just to eat spinach I guess... So let's make an optimistic bet : next summer season SNBA starts a code sharing with a NH (or JL).

Indeed while it would be fantastic for brussels, its economy and the wet dream of many belgian spotters come true, I am pretty sure that some action group will send them an e-mail stating that " brussels airport was built by nazis" (who cares anyway), and that they'll do their utmost best to make it any airline who comes to BRU their life as miserable as possible. Furthermore if the brussels diversion plan doesn't get solved NO long haul airline will start service to Brussels.

Investors and companies don´t like risk, as long as there is this threat that Brussels might close during the night or weekend or just entirely, no long haul airline will come to brussels, this is just an economic law. (unless ofcourse they would be able to make huge profits while they can fly to BRU, but if that were the case, there would already be many long haul routes out of BRU).

If an airline comes it is to stay ..if they can't be sure that they will still be allowed to fly 5months after they commenced service, they will just keep the route proposal in the drawer.

First the dispersion plan and the long term future of Brussels as an airport needs to be sorted out before any airline will come pay us a visit. Maybe sounds pessimistic but that is just how it is.

Who do you think built the japanese runways, AFApresident?
A system that then killed some 25.000.000 people between Hawaii and Burma...
People who want to impress people with such letters might not receive an answer there....
We should not even mention them....

Given the fact that there isn't any reason to assume that they'll codeshare with NH (which is a Star Allaince partner) the only option would be JL
The CEO of SNBA recently went to Japan, not just to eat spinach I guess
I don't want to crush your dreams but there was an IATA meeting in Tokyo last May (the Annual General Meeting 2005) thus I guess you're correct, he wasn't there just to eat spinach.
