LUG-GVA 06MAY05

Post by Air_Lac »

Although I had flown GVA-LUG already several years ago with Crossair (Swearingen Metro III) I was all excited about this new experience which I had planned on 6 May... and indeed it was just as memorable as almost 20 years ago.

This time the flight was with Baboo Airlines (www.flybaboo.com) a small airline operating 2 Dash 8-300 which was created after the demise of Crossair and the decision of swiss to no longer fly between Geneva and Lugano.

Our flight was operated with the aircraft HB-JEJ. There were only about 12 passengers (25% loadfactor), probably due to that fact there are two airlines currently operating this route (the other is Darwin Airline, also a rather new airline).

The flight lasted 46 minutes...we left Lugano in beautiful sunshine and springlike weather conditions to arrive in Geneva overcast 12°C and heavy rain...it was most interesting to see how the Alps act as barrier to the clouds and bad weather.

Inflight service was very good and friendly (only one flight attendant - but more was not really necessary or useful bearing in mind the few passengers). We were given mini pizzas, mini sandwiches (off a tray - two helpings) and some brioche. The drink was water only...a 1/2liter bottle of Fiji natural spring water (yes Fiji !!! a bit odd in Switzerland where you have all the best mountain spring waters you could possibly dream off...I did not drink it but keep it as a souvenir, not everyday you get water from that region of the world).

The routing was taking off on runway 19 in a Southerly direction (with the wind) turning Eastwards and flying over the Lakes over Savoy and eventually past the Mont Blanc the only peak to be above the clouds, sun and rain produced a very nice and intense rainbow above the Lake of Geneva. A spectacular flight.

Landing was on time on runway 23.

A very nice experience...no pictures yet (I'm still not digital...but I start considering this option seriously now at least :-) )

Thanks for nice report, Air_Lac.
the demise of Crossair

The demise of Crossair? I thought only Swissair went down, and SWISS was created from Crossair remaining alive.
Fiji natural spring water

Are you sure this is not an exotic name for a Swiss spring water?
