Pictures from the South African Flight - Stowaway

Post by BeerGuzzler »

Body parts literally fell from the sky and into a backyard, just a few miles from JFK. It seems a stowaway lost his chance at freedom. As a South African Airways' airplane dropped its landing gear, getting set for landing at New York's JFK airport, parts of a body, including a leg with shoe still attached, plunged from the sky and landed in the yard of a private home. The aircraft was damaged, and the identity of the stowaway has yet to be determined. (Airtravel @ About.com)

What a way to go... May he Rest In Peace!

Wouldn't it be easy to install some kind of warning system to detect these people?

I guess that would cost a lot of money, and I don't think that the cost would justify the gain (how harsh that may sound).
Furthermore, I do not think that airlines would be willing to pay money for such a system, provided that they have cash to spare.

Parts of his body almost hit my old Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park.

(I shot my way out in 1949, majored in Aeronautics.)

Indeed horrible, I cannot imagine what really happened. Was his meat being squeezed out the fuselage by the pressure of the moving landing gear?
