National politics (to please the EU), Political pressure from outside (EU or US), future compensations by Airbus (parts of Airbus production to Poland, or other Airbus supplies), Airbus making a better deal then Boeing.......too many factors that are decided without considering who offers the better product.

First off this is not an A vs B posting this is a reality check.

We all know the turmoil Airbus is going through, and thats a total subject in itself, but its a big factor in the confidence level of prospective purchasers of aircraft who must weigh the ability of Airbus to deliver the proposed A350 in the form that is promised, and that! is not cast in stone.

Airbus originally said that their current products would and could compete with the 787, then they changed their mind, and said well maybe not, we are going to offer a new plane. That proposal has changed four times, is there a sense of maybe Airbus doesn't know what it wants to sell? The problems that are being experienced with the A380 are also a very negative effect on buying decisions, is the A350 going to be a repeat performance.

The reasons for Boeings success with the 787 are many, the savings in fuel are going to be huge, the savings in landing fees are also huge. due to the lighter weight. But the biggest factor is listening to their customers and giving them what they want, when they want it.

Recent actions by Airbus in India, and a reported letter to be sent to Japan are not in the best interests of good customer relations, Airbus has burnt a few bridges by their actions, and will not serve them well in the future.

We all must remember that Airbus has yet to decide whether to even build this plane, the only decision made to date is to test the waters to see if enough airlines are interested, and if so put down firm commitments, then and only then will a decision be made to actually build it.

The current WTO case is also a big factor, Airbus has asked for funding from the usual Government supporters, and this time there is a reluctance to provide it, except maybe in the case of France. The number of uncertainties that are clouding the future are many, the path is not clear, Airbus has a tough time ahead.

LH.

By 2011, their oldest A343s will be well over 15 years old.

no announcements will be made at Paris.
Where did you read that, cause it's not in the article you linked to. They even say orders ARE expected to be announced in Paris.

First line in the Article

FRANKFURT/LONDON (Reuters) - Airbus parent firm EADS (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it aimed to launch its Airbus A350 model by the end of September, dashing hopes of a formal go-ahead at next week's Paris air show.

Okay, misunderstanding. Your use of the word 'announcementS' (plural) made me think you were referring to no orders being announced at the show.

It seems that Emirates won't announce any order for the A350 at Paris. Talks are still ongoing, not only with Airbus bit also with Boeing, who offer the B787 as well as the long-range version of the B777. Selling the A350 has been unusually complicated because Airbus officials were slow to agree on the plane's basic design. "By not having the right airplane soon enough, we lost some orders," Leahy admits.

I think we will see at least some Letter of Intents at the Air Show in Paris.
Even if the formal program launch has been pushed back to the end of
September, there will definitely be some orders announced in Le Bourget.

Gulf Air would be nice to see for the A350. For replacement of their
B767 and the oldest A340's then.

A350 is starting to chase after B787 and get more an more orders in the Paris Airshow.

A350 orders at Paris Airshow:
Qatar Airways 60 A350s
ALAFCO 12 A350s
GECAS 10 A350s
Kingfisher 5 A350s

+

Air Europa 10 A350s

Total A350 orders (till 15 June)-- 97 aircrafts

I expect that there will be more A350 orders in the Airshow or this year.
Congratulations, Airbus! :D

Overall A350-800/900 Orders

Airline Carriers/Leasing Company (No. of aircraft that they order)

Air Europa - 10 X A350s

Qatar Airways - 60 X A350s

ALAFCO - 12 X A350s

GECAS - 10 x A350s

Kingfisher - 5 x A350s

TAM - 8 X A350s

Total: 105 A350s

Expected Future Customers soon (expected no. that they order)

Aer Lingus - 5-10 A350s
Air France - 10-20 A350s
Cathay Pacific - 15-20 A350s
Chinese Carriers (Air China, China Eastern and China Southern) - 50 A350s
Finnair - 5-10 A350s
Iberia - 10-20 A350s
Lufthansa - 15-20 A350s

+

Those airlines wanted to order B787 at first and change their mind - 100 A350s (Possible?)

Total: 115-160 A350s + previous orders for 105 A350s = 215-255 A350s

Above orders are just my dream ~ Anyway, I hope A350s can fight back the B787.

But I'm sure those airlines operating A330 now will order A350 soon for medium/long haul routes.

Cathay Pacific will order them for sure! Hope they can change their proposal of ordering A340-600HGW to A350. :)

Sorry cathayoneworld, you can remove AF from the list. The remaining 21 A340-300s are here to stay till 2011. On the other hand, you forgot EK with their likely 50 A350-900s order in september.

Regards

Seb.

Yes, EK and CX would be very good for the A350 ! Both airlines are
known as very crucial before ordering any planes !

I can't believe y'all forgot about the US/HP order!?!

US agreed to buy 20 A350s about three weeks ago as part of a complex financial agreement with Airbus and ACE.
