Some airlines sometimes have late equipment changes, which can not be avoided :shakehead: , so you are telling us that you won't be on that flight, if it ain't a Boeing; have you got that much money that you can afford to waste it? If so can you chuck some my way!

@earthman: OK, so what I need is to put 1100 km/h into a formula and Mach 0.89 and then I get the ceileing - thank you, I got it. but I am lazy right now to track the result :-)

not entirely correct .. speed of sound is only dependent on one thing: temperature.

Mach 1 is always a reference to the local speed of sound (LSS)

LSS at MSL in ISA conditions is 661 kts

at FL350 at for example - 47° LSS = 586 kts

@A380-800 and others:

msn 004 will start test flights begining of JUN.

msn 002 will perform a ferry flight to HAM in JUN. It will be fitted with a cabin interrior and then, will start test flights begining of SEP05.

msn 007 will perform a ferry flight to HAM end of JUL. it will be fitted with an "advanced" cabin interrior and will start test flights mid FEB06.

The speed of sound is dependent on air density. The more densly packed the air molecules the faster the speed of sound. Altitude is much more of a factor than temp.

Planes like the U2 had to be flown very carefully at altitude. At cruise, the plane has a very narrow range of speeds it could fly at. The true air stall speed goes up and mach comes down. At some point, these lines cross and the plane be in big trouble.

Thanks, HorsePower. So, I guess that MSN 007 will be equipped with the
AIB (Airbus Industrie) cabin for the route proving flights next year.
I hope I can manage to get on one flight then... 8)

@A380-800: I wondered how you will try to get on the route-proving flights ... is there any opportunity for civilian/non-employees to attend those flights?

@A380-800: they will fly first with msn 002 to find any cabin layout problem (ect...) to fix (most of) them on msn 007.

msn 004 is late. Even all the engines aren't fitted yet. It will fly "during this summer".

by six months....

Yes Airbus does have lots of more time for the A380 program and lets hope that the result cane lead to a better aircraft than can compete with B747adv and for sure be a delight for its costumers!

I must say that 6 months are a little too much indeed and Airbus has to spend lots of good time on dealing with the complaints instead of talking the A380 costumers to buy other Airbus aircrafts.

My post about A380 test flight has got more then 2500 readers! Not Bad!

Have a nice week end!
