What to do with all these word-games in the pub?

Post by Comet »

I can imagine that very soon the first page of the Luchtzak Pub will consist of nothing but a list of "stickys". Will there ever be an end to the appearance of these "never ending find a such and such game"? :( It is ruining the look of the forum. Couldn't there be a separate forum for the games?

Have a proposition:

no more sticky topics, the most popular topic-games will automatically stay on the first page.

That's a perfectly fair result. People know the games are there and will post on them anyway. It was getting difficult to read the Pub forum with all the stickys at the top and new things much further down the page. Now the newer topics are at the top no matter what they are it is easier on the eyes.

In addition to that, I would like to suggest to add onother Forum/subforum, namely Humor, where one can post jokes, funny pictures, ...... and this to replace the humor-topic in the pub.

That's a great idea 744rules. VC10 liked to post jokes, but when they went into one topic she said it was just not the same because you got no feedback on what you put, like you did when you had a separate topic for each joke. Too many stickys make a forum harder to read and the Pub has alot to offer which was being overlooked when all the new topics started halfway down the page.

Humour and fun-forum
games-forum

Wouldn't we have too many forums then? Please elaborate ;)

Well isn't the prupose of the pub to have those games and funny topics ? If you create a new forum for the games and funny topics etc. then I don't see the purpose of the pub anymore ....

What do you think ?

I agree with Avro, when splitting the sub-forums into games etc. then the pub would get quit.
Also it could be confusing to new members, because they could mix up the proposed "games" topic with flight simulation.

I am happy with the situation as it is now, no need to change it for me.

All I mean is that when I want to post a joke, I would have to add it to the open/sticky topic and that in the end, one would no longer know what replies have been written to what topic/joke.

Unless of cause the forum-community decides to open a new topic for every new joke/games/fun-thing

744rules,

I noticed in the luchtzak-pub that members wanted to have their own topic for their joke so I have dropped the 'one-and-only jokes-topic' ;)

Maybe it would be nice to do the same for the birthday topic - it was much nicer when there was a special topic for your birhtday rather than just being added to a list in a sticky. And it was also easier to see who was wishing who a happy birthday.

Contrast the number of birthday wishes people had when there was a special topic for them witht he number they hardly get when they are listed in a sticky and you will see what I mean.

I am all for the limiting and combining of 'useless' (aviation-wise) topics, so that there are some interesting topics to read when I click the 'view new posts since last visit' button, and it's not all garbage...

I would suggest the following ...

Keep everything in the subforums like it is now, but show only the aviation-related topics on the main page. The so called 'non-aviation'-forums (pub, cityguide ...) are mentioned above the 'last-reply'-list on the mainpage, so easy to be found

I suggest to leave Cityguide where it is, it caused alot of hassle when it was taken from the homepage as it was last year. As the main contributor to that forum it is gross to spend several hours preparing a guide only to have a couple of reads and no comments, like what was happening last year. The posts in the other non-aviation forums don't take up as much time or work as a cityguide does, believe me. For the amount of effort it takes to do one, it would be unfair to relegate them to the back room and have no one reading them :(

I believe it takes much time to make that, but it is still 'non-aviation' ...

Maybe there is some need to re-think about the 'core-business' of this great aviationsite (which was mentioned today in the newspaper by the way) ;)

First of all : We appreciate your effort of writing cityguides comet but this is not the core of luchtzak.be. I and a lot of others are getting tired of all these jokes, games, and whatever. Maybe it’s nice to have a lot of active topics but the most of the visitors prefer fewer topics but good ones, preferably aviation-topics.
Your cityguides are nice comet but that’s it, it does not interest me at all. And creating new forums: very bad idea, I even prefer to reduce the amount of forums. Luchtzak started as an aviation site and has become a I-hang-around-and-post-something-to-come-through-the day site. I try to read as much interesting topics as possible but do I really need to post something like you want us to do in your cityguides? NO! I will not post until I need to. Also very irritating are the so called off-topic questions. For example a certain member (the biggest passenger-aircraft) already asked twice for the reg/codes of the planes from a company. No problem with the fact he would like to know that, but if it has nothing to do with the topic: remove it. It is even faster to use google to find that answer than to type the question over here and wait until someone post the data.
I was not the perfect member at all in the beginning but learned my lesson and try the behave myself.
Maybe it’s time for the admins to sit together and clean up the garbage before it becomes a dump.

PS: Humbersite, nothing against you but try to avoid this:
