- I have lived in several cities around the world and visited many others, and never the airport
was so close to the city as in Zaventem.
Examples: Canberra(Aus) +/- 25 km
Tripoli(Libya) +35 km
Yaounde 20 km (old airport in 60's)
New York (all are more than 30 km+)
Copenhagen +30 km (Kastrup)
Sydney +40 km
Dakar +25 km
... Frankfurt, Capetown, Singapore, Bangkok, Auckland, Christchurch, LAX, etc ...
(these figures ,as for Zaventem, are taken lightly)
In these times such approximinity is a LUXURY, and nobody seems to realize this most
import argument which is largely in favour for Zaventem.
Although the idea of a second airport for Brussels is ridiculous, this is certainly the most
important reason not to build another airport.

Re: Airport Zaventem close to City
This advantage is also a disadvantage: the airport cannot expand anymore. It is middle in a densely populated triangle between Brussels, Mechelen and Leuven. There is certainly still room for doubling the number of passengers and flights (except perhaps night flights - that will not be accepted by the neighbouring population). But later? In 2020?777 wrote:In these times such a proximity is a LUXURY, and nobody seems to realize this most important argument which is largely in favour for Zaventem.
That is exactly why a second airport must be on the drawing board now, to be there in time. For night flights. For an expansion after 2020, when more than 30 million pax will use Zaventem to its max capacity.777 wrote:Although the idea of a second airport for Brussels is ridiculous, this is certainly the most important reason not to build another airport.

The world has to understand that you can not keep growing. There is a limit.
Maybe you can move to Mars.
Humanity must come to its sences and realize that the globe is overcrowded.
On the Brussels Airport theme, we still haven't reached the pre-sabena bankrupt era.So we still have time to solve some pax growth.
As for the CAR problem ,there starts to be a PLANE problem.
And you can't solve it by keeping on growing.
