I hit a plane today!

Post by ryanvsnow »

This afternoon, Thursday 19 May at approx. 2100, I was bringing the push-back tug over to gate E11 when the brakes failed. I managed to steer clear of the nose of the A/C but I took out the passenger boarding stairs which damaged the side of the A/C opon impact. I now have to await the results of my Drug-Urine-Screen (Which will be Negative) before I can return to work. It might be a 3day Week-End for me.

I do not wan't to scare you in any way, but sometimes those tests can be inaccurate. This is when you eat certain products that have the some kind react to the substances used in a drug test (so that it shows positive). On "Mythbusters" they showed it once and the myth was not busted, but proven.

Could this accident, when the test turns out negative, in any way affect your carreer?

Btw, what aircraft did you hit and to which airline belonged it?
Did the aircraft needed to be taken out of service for repairs?
How long was the flight delayed, or was it even cancelled?

I heard this once about poppy seeds showing positive for opium (if I spelled that right). The A/C was a Mesa Air Group Embraer 145. The A/C was taken to the maintenance hanger and swaped out for another A/C. I don't know who long the flight was delayed for.

I hope this doesn't wreck your carrer in aviation & I know everybody on these forums really feel for you at this time(even though they don't express that thought)!

Thank You Julius. I hope not either. If not I'm going to go to the Cargo side of aviation. It's something I've wanted to do for a while. If this with Piedmont doesn't pan out.... Thats where I'll go.

You'll be fine Ryan....have you heard anything yet?? Just look at all the people that hit airplanes around the airport....the worst that can happen is that you have a 3 day weekend and I won't get to see you! Have faith...I do!

Ouch, that plane has the passenger stairs integrated into the door, that's a bad thing to hit.

Acctually the MESA owned 145's do not... I got lucky there. The only 145's we do have with stairs are owned by Chautaqua.
Well its 1240 monday and still no word yet if I can return to work:(

Yes my first day back in week! My drug test still has not shown up. My Station Manager allowed me to come back so I don't loose too many days. The only stipulation was that I can not opperate any ground equipment at all. Hey I had a pretty easy day.
