B747, N158UA - 21054/260 flying enigma
There seems to be a B747, registered in Swaziland as 3D-BOX.
Other source say it is stored @ Ariana Afghan Airlines
Previously registrations are VH-EBJ, YA-EAH and N158UA.
When checked as VH-EBJ, this is the result of the findings...
Aircraft Type MSN/SN History records Current/last Status
C-47A-DK 12667 VH-EBJ with Qantas Ultimate fate obscure, last with Royal Thai Air Force
B.707-138B 18069/228 VH-EBJ with Qantas Derelict, last with Misr Overseas Airways
B.747-238B 21054/260 VH-EBJ with 2 operators Stored by Ariana Afghan Airlines
When checked as YA-EAH , this is the result is "embargoed"
N158UA 238B 21054/260 4x58 VH-EBJ 04/91 *
N158UA was a United - current cls - ex VH-EBJ ( Air Pacific - Qantas - full Air Pacific cls)
21054 747 238B N158UA 21/04/75 01/06/91 UNITED AIRLINES 8258 PW JT9D-7J PEGA QFA/FJI STD Marana VH-EBJ
Seen on 16JAN2003 as flying N158UA B747 MZJ-YQX (Marana = MZJ)
I'm told this aircraft is now operating between TIP and JED.
And it is said that this aircraft is not current on any checks (A,B,C+D).
Does somebody have info about this flying enigma?

Fons,
latest info on the B747 with c/n 21054 is that YA-EAH was seen stored @ Sharjah on September 25 2003 in basic United colors without titles. This should be the plane pictured back in May 2003.
Never heard of 3D-BOX
But i must say, Sharjah is the place of some very strange switches in registrations, even without ever getting airborne.

In the same alley?
TIP to JED is hadj, LienLien wrote:I suppose you know there is also a B747 YA-EAG ex.VH-EBM ? Both EAG and EAH are currently on use on Hadji flights. Lien !
The destiny of all these ex UA series of B747 is bizarre.
None of these aircraft ever fly back to the US! They are allowed in Europe. And they fly around the Middel East.
Who is behind this business? Is this the same alley that went the many B727?
B747, N158UA - 21054/260 flying enigma
I believe the aircraft is now owned by Imad Saba at Air Van i Sharjah. He also owns the N3439
Imad Saba -not- the activist with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Edikor?
Maybe this one: Imad Saba of FAG, also associated with East/West Cargo ?
The ones that operated into West Africa and Iraq and recently lost an Ilyushin 76 in Sudan? (a relief flight)
Air Van? Not much to see there!
BTW: FAG = Financial Advisory Group based in Sharjah and formerly in Miami. The same leased a B727 aircraft to KAMAIR. And were active in Afghanistan with an ex-American Airlines B727*, that crashed in Cotonou on X-Mas 2003,
I reported about all these aircraft..... and aircraft (3D-FAK) in Swaziland (Alpha Omega Airways).
It is said behind these and other businesses there would a Mr Viktor Bout.
Viktor Bout's businesses started in 1993, when this former student at the Institute for Military Interpreters in Moscow who speaks - in addition to the Russian and the Uzbek he inherited from his birth in Tashkent** - English, French, and Portuguese, bought some cut-price airplanes: several Antonov, an Iliouchine, and a helicopter. His specialty then consisted of flying this fleet -which counted up to sixty vehicles - under different flags of convenience, bypassing borders, rules, and embargos, and developing a flourishing triangular commerce. He exports weapons from the former Soviet bloc to Africa or Afghanistan. He's paid cash on the spot, or in natural resources of the region, which he lifts up and sells elswhere.
After September 11, Viktor Bout was suspected of having furnished weapons to bin Laden, who was then sheltered by the Taliban. That didn't stop the United States, according to a source from the Belgian secret service, from entrusting him with arms shipments to the Northern Alliance, then at war against the Taliban. Could he be in Somalia now?

**other sources mention his mother in labour at Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Victor Anatoliyevich Bout is born on January 13, 1967 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The aircraft still looks good in that beautiful in that gorgeous old UA color scheme!
In the Airliner World issue of June 2004 there is a picture of YA-EAG, and the transcript says that it now is registered EK-74701 is one of two wide-bodied aircraft that then have been recently acquired by new Armenian operator Air-Van Airlines. On the picture the aircraft is still in the basic UA color scheme, but with IRS Airlines titles. And that is where YA-EAH or now 3D-BOX is also flying for.
I hope this helps (or just ads more confusion??)
Airfleets.net is giving this information:

Maybe if you try to do a google search on both the EK-..... registrations as mentioned above, more information comes up.
