does anyone know whether this site was an airport formerly?
if so, what was it called and when did it close down?

Don't know about Semmerzake being an airport once. No direct evidence of that visible. There is a lot of grass and Cessna's and the like would have enough space though.
But it does have a 4-lettre ICAO-code, EBSZ
