TV882 Bruselas - Valencia

Post by airbuske »

With the Valencia contest in december I
was one of the winners. So I and my girlfriend decided
to spend some days in Valencia during the Easter holidays.

Here we go...

TV882 Bruselas – Valencia

Scheduled departure 7:00 / Actual departure: 7:00
Scheduled arrival 9:15 / Actual arrival: 9:05

Flight operated by OO-VEK (cn 24270) old c/s
Image

We left home at 4:15 and arrived without problems at 4:50 at Brussels Int. Airport.

Check-in for all Virgin Express flights is at check in row 3. When we arrived at the check- in counters there was already a big queue and the queue became bigger after us.
At 5:00 the check-in started. I found it so chaotic! One queue for the different counters isn’t what you call well-organized.
10 minutes later was is our turn. When I said “hello” to the lady she didn’t say anything back. Check-in was done without saying to much :? Whe received seats 2A and 2B, emergency seats.

The check in process was very impersonal, I definitely did not get the feeling I was a ’’valued customer’’ or that they were glad to have my business.

After check-in we went to “Topaas”for breakfast.
Passport and security control went very smooth on this early hour of the day.
After our breakfast we went to gate A48 but then we saw that the gate was changed to A50.Gate A48 would be used for flight TV502 to Lissbon.
I could not see the registration oh the plane until our arrival in Valencia.

At 6:40 boarding was announced. A very friendly lady (other lady than the lady who had checked us in) checked our boarding passes. A female purser “welcomed” us on board and asked our boarding passes before we could go to our seats (Never had this before). We had seat 2A and 2B so legroom enough.

The plane looked used on the inside. The plane could use a make over inside and out. But as long as it is safe and sanitary, no :? ?

Some 10 minutes later they started to count the passengers. I saw that we would fly with 75 passengers to Valencia. This means that loadfactor was 52 %.

At 7:00 we left the gate and we taxied to runway 25R for a CIV departure.
We taxied via inner 4, inner 5 and inner 6 to B1 were we entered 25R immediately with also immediately departure.

After take off at 7:10 we received a welcome from the captain.
We received also the following flight information: we would fly from Brussels to Paris, further to Toulouse and after Toulouse to Valencia.
Alltitude 33000 feet.

After take off they came round with snacks and drinks.
The lady was not friendly, again :(
I and my girlfriend took coffee.

Later during our 2 hour flight we were offered duty-free, but no more drinks. The in-flight magazine summarized each of Virgin Express destinations and gave ideas on what to see and do. We saw the cabin crew 2 or 3 times during our flight, that’s all.

15 minutes before our touch down at Valencia Int airport descend started.
Touch down was 10 minutes before scheduled time, 9u05.
We taxied via runway 30 , H3 to remote stand 19.

Left from us there was a De Havilland Canada DHC8-315 Q300 from Air NOstrum

I never flied with Virgin Express and I will never fly again with them.
Not friendly , very poor service , old planes.
I know if you pay low cost you receive low cost but I never thought it was so bad:!:

Thanks for excellent report of, well, less excellent flight. :D

It is the fairest way to organise a queue. BA does it in an excellent way at MAN, for example. The chaos may be in the way to organise the queue: you need a lot of room and dividers to streamline the queue.

Thx Adré for the comment.

It is indeed the fairest way to organise a queue.

But when the check in started it was quiet chaotic.
We had to go to the left others to the right, others were wrong and had to go from right to the left, pfff .

I hope that you understand what I mean with not well-organized.
Best regards,

Airbuske

Well, not if you fly Vueling! You get really good service, new planes and you see the crew a lot more then only 15 minutes! They even come to chat with you sometimes!!

Interesting report, Virgin Express sound crap. Though on other airlines the purser checks your boarding pass before you sit down, that is not unique to VEX.
They even come to chat with you sometimes!!
That can also happen on SNBA, but I only encountered that kind of friendliness on our first SNBA flight, never since :(
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

Hello

I just read the report of the flight Airbuske had on VEX and feel sorry for the bad flight he had, but don't agree on calling VEX 'crap'. For a low cost carrier, VEX still has one of the most excellent services around and is operating very professional.

I worked for VEX earlier and know they are really customer-minded and are working very hard to make a passengers journey a pleasant one. Also on SN (yes, I mean this, it's not only SN who's good...) and other companies you can have a less freindly crew. It's a way of life... Are you laughing all te time? Think not.

And if you have questions about the queue... ask me, I know how it works :D

First I would like to thank you for your response.

Indeed in every company you have less friendly crew.
But if you say "hello" to a purser and they don't say anything back. :?:
But it is not because I had a bad experience that everything about VEX is bad :!:

Tell me about the queue and how it works? :)

And my girlfriend has fear of flying Virgin Express.
OO-VEK isn't what you call a young and nice plane.

But every company has hi advantages and disadvantages.

Airbuske,

Sad to hear your girlfriend is afraid of flying VEX. There is absolutely no need. The interior of an airplane does NOT say everything about the state of the aircraft. the VEK indeed is an old plane but is still a very good plane to fly. All of VEX aircraft are safe and flightworthy otherwise it wouldn't be possible to fly in the Belgian/European skies... SN Technics is doing all of the maintenance of VEx and we all know the good reputation they have! VEX is safe, that's for sure...

The queue as it is now was developped a few years ago. previously it were just some lines in front of the check in counters, but this disturbed the handler at row 2, opposite row 3, so we developped the snake system. At the end of the queue a 'queuing agent' leads pax to an available check-in desk. Maybe you don't believe it, but it has proved to be quite efficient and VEX still is one of the most efficient companies to quickly check in their passengers. They're doing a good job...

About the queue, I saw it yesterday 9 May at 6:30 in the morning. The whole 'snake' was full and the queue extended to half of the departure hall. I guess that many people must have missed their VEX plane yesterday. What happened?

Nico ,

Thanks for explaining the queue.
I will tell my girlfriend that she don't have to be afraid. :)

You had to wait for 10 minutes??? <sarcasm>Poor thing</sarcasm>

When I said “hello” to the lady she didn’t say anything back.

The least she could have said was "good morning", I'll agree with you on that one.

Check-in was done without saying to much :?

What did you expect? The joke of the day? the weather report for Valencia? A compliment about your hair? Sorry buddy, gotta keep the line moving...

The check in process was very impersonal, I definitely did not get the feeling I was a ’’valued customer’’ or that they were glad to have my business.

I think you showed up at check-in with way too high expectations. See above.

If I'm not mistaken OO-VEK is ex-citybird so you could be right about it being old but it still does a great job and you said yourself you had great seats.

Well, at least you didn't complain about the lack of inflight entertainment!
Geez, today's customers are really hard to please....

Well, I feel that when you check in at least you good get a smile and maybe one or two extra words. I mean, it should be that every passenger gets the feeling they are a valued costumer. That is the least you can get from the person at check-in. The person at check-in is the first person you meet when travelling. She should be so friendly that the trip starts already good. If she messes up the passenger will already board the plane in bad mood.

But why would I fly with a company who don't care about their passengers?
The only thing I ask is a friendly lady at the check in and friendly cabin crew Smiling is not necessary

That's just being completely rude ! Now I understand much better why you were so disappointed

I've worked as a check-in agent myself (see sig). Never had any problems with pax. I've always been friendly, patient, always sent luggage to the correct destination :D so next time you go on a vacation, just come and check-in at my counter

Are you sure of that? When a passenger complains, it is not to you at the departure, but to another guy after arrival at destination! ;-)
