Emirates wants to order up to fifty Airbus A350's

Post by B744skipper »

According to Luchtvaartnieuws, who got there source from the Sunday Times, Emirates wants to order up to 50 Airbus A350's. The order would be announced at the Paris Air Show.

Source

It seems that these is serious news, but I wonder why and who did leak it to the press already, since Airbus wanted to save up orders until the Paris Air Show. Seems that when this news it true that the A350 production has a major stand, when it comes to approving the A350-line by the board.

Since it is forbidden to copy articles to Luchtzak, and it is not possible to give a link to the article, just go to The Sunday Times homepage and do a search for "Airbus". Then scroll through the search results (it is somewhere in the "back", the dates of the articles are not logical ordered on the site) and then you should be able do retrieve the article.

Just a minute! Airbus still must secure funding for the develoment of the A350. That is far from accomplished, wuth the WTO having a close scrutiny of all the aircraft development deals, as well for Airbus as for Boeing.

I wonder what advantages EK saw on the A350 over the B787?

I know size/capacity may have been one...but what is the actual capacity difference b/w the two AC?

you'd think EK would want some medium load ac to replace the A330, but they only what huge, huge, huge aircraft....I wonder what they think they will do with all those A380s.........?

Id love to fly EK one day and experience what they do with the A380 (as long as its reasonably comfortable)

Emirates will get a sweet deal on the A350 - I suspect it would mean the phasing out of their older 777's as well. They are doing well, seats are not easy to come by on many routes as they are usually better than the competition. Even the 10 a-breast 777's are reasonably comfortable - good luck to em. Anyone else think Airbus are going to come out with a slew of orders at the airshow? I for one think the 787 isn't going to be much more than a souped up 767 so Airbus may be going the right way witht eh updated 330 appraoch.

Not that I'm a big fan of the 787 (it looks just like the 767 now), but that statement is totaly false, the 787 doesn't have anything to do with the 767... The A350 on the other hand is a 'souped up' A330, and intended that way...

Emirates has announced the information contained in the article is ficticious and untrue.

Erm, thats what I said....so the disagreement is where - given that you agree the 787 looks just like a 767?

The first release of the the "787 pictures" where it had the shark tail etc really made me think wow cool plane, I know this doesnt come into account when purchasing a plane but im an enthusiast and I like to see different variations of aircraft and this new look 787 to me is a let down. That being said a plane is a plane and to me they are all beyond cool.
Good luck to all.

Erm, well, on the point that the A350 is based on the A330 design, so the A350 is a "souped up" A330. But the B787 isn't based on the B767, it's a totally new design.

I think they're all cool too, it's nice to have different planes that change the shape of things...

Its still too early to tell who may win this order, although am sure that Airbus has the foot in the door as they are practically tailor fitting this aircraft to the needs of Emirates. In the long run this may prove to be harmful to Airbus as they are focusing too much atention one on particular airline. Airbus should also adress the need for an A300/310 replacement.

Does any one have any news as to what the A305 project was about?

I wonder if A350 offer larger windows, and higher humidity in passenger cabin as B787 does. Assume A350 is as economical as B787, but it doens't provide comfort as B787 does, is it a big disadvatange?

I am sure AIRBUS is already working on comfort improvements, such as higher humidity during the flight. With the massive sales of the B787 they have to react somehow. Maybe they reconsider the fuselage design and go for composite as well...only my assumption.javascript:emoticon(':)')
