A380 delivery delayed

Post by Ruscoe »

As you all have probably heard, Airbus have delayed delivery of the first 380 to Singapore by a few months.

Does anyone know why?

My bet is that it is related to the first flight being late, but someone might know better.

Thanks,

Ruscoe

No causes have been published yet, but the travel industry is well aware of the problems.

June 2006 @ Changi, heard over the intercom -

"SIA is sorry to announce that Flight SQ** to *** is delayed by a few months, the delay is due to the late delivery of the aircraft, we will update you on the status soon. Thank you once again for flying Singapore Airlines"

Just wondering wheteher EK will cancel any order due to late delivery ,as EK is in a rapid expansion mode. Even B777 was delivered late !!!

Thanks X-prise on pointing that out. I was naturally refering to December 2006. But I can tell you that I would not mind poping Down Under this year.

May have to do with the ashtrays. They replaced the original aluminium ones by carbon fibre ones to save some weight. Turns out that the epoxy resin is not fire resistant.
hoax?

There are now discussions on the Airline bulletin boards that due to contractual obligations with Singapore, they may not be able to show the A380 at Paris! apparently the penalties for late delivery are astounding.

Anyone in France able to confirm this?

Okay so Airbus has to worry about not only being late delivering, but also doesn't the A380 have to perform to certain "expectations" otherwise the airline will have to be compensated?? I could be wrong. :?

This article was e-mailed to me regarding some of the problems facing the A380, its self explanatory. Although it was published prior to first flight, it explains what some of the delays are, and concerns of the customers.

My reply was just a silly hoax but now it turns out to contain quite some truth! It are not the ashtrays, but the windowswhich are changed from aluminium to carbon fibre.
The article mentions specifically peeling of the paint. This is indeed a problem with carbon parts. But it is a problem with aluminium as well.
Is there somebody here who knows how the aluminium windows are made? A rolled and welded extrusion? Or a fully machined part? Or machined out of a rolled ring or out of a casting?

There is a rumour going around that the wing failed at 130% rather than 150%.

Not a great drama, that is what testing is for.
If true, the solution might add weight however.

Does anyone have any reliable source to support this rumour?

I can understand the reaction of SIA. There are a lot of people who reserved a seat for the first flight. This is good news but not for SIA with again a delay.

Is it possible a mistake of Airbus :?: They built the biggest aircraft ever and even for the first testflight there was a transaction, date, to deliver the first aircraft next year. Was this caused due to competition with Boeing.

I don't see the A380 too much delayed, maybe a few weeks but SIA will get the first A/C definately in 2006. They are also the anounced launch customer for this bird and Airbus will work hard on this to avoid a big delay anyway. I hope to be on one of the flights for the root proving activities from Airbus to see how the aircraft is working.

Lufthansa pushed back to Sept 2007

Post by bits44 »

A huge delay for Lufthansa A380 Delivery
this means Lufthansa will not be in revenue service until possibly early 2008.

It's gone be tuff days for Airbus, less orders for new aircrafts, delays for the A380. It seems that the good days are over for Airbus. The winner for this year is Boeing. Hopefully it's gone be better next year for Airbus.
