Blue Panorama to Ukraine

Post by Humberside »

Are Blue Panorama's Kiev services in association with Ukraine International Airlines?

I really don't know. They had a scheduled service from Milan to Kiev even last year, I think. But I don't know, if they still operate it. There are quite a few ukrainians liveing in Italy, so maybe that's the reason.

To me the reason looks more like a tour operator business than a regular traffic.
Ever heard of the "Pearl of the Black Sea," Odessa* and Yalta's fame as the “Golden Riviera".
I think Italians,(and nearby Austrians and Southern Germans go visit the Bolshoy Kanyon and the Dzhur-Dzhur and Uchansu waterfalls in Ukraine.
Venice is a cruise harbour. And cruises in the Black sea are most 'popular'. Also Ukrainian (longtime) emigrants are now visiting the land of their ancestors.

For film enthousisast there is the 'Potemkin staircase**'

Ukraine now means also tourism!

* The home of Black Sea Shipping Co. (the world's largest shipping company)
** Remember the runaway baby carriage on the Odessa steps in Sergei Eisenstein's movie.

To think about Ukraine as a paradise for tourists is a bit too optimistic:) Not by fault of ukrainians, but by fault of westerners. They think ukraine=chernobyl, and nothing more. U don't see tourists from the west in Kiev, Odessa or Crimea.
But in the EU there are estimated 10 million ukrainians liveing, and a big slice of them is in Italy.

It does, but rather form Moscow and other russian cities, than from the EU.

That's what I wrote: Also Ukrainian (longtime) emigrants are now visiting the land of their ancestors.
But combine a cruise to/in the Black Sea and a flight back to Venice, and you might have an explanation.

I know that many Italians have the means to go to Ukraine as tourist, but is there a reciprocal traffic?

Much more Ukrainians are now visiting Italy, than the reverse.

Browse tourism.gov.ua for that.
As I have found a total amount of 33000 citizens visited Ukraine in 2003 (datas for which are avaible) directly from Italy. There's also a transit data from Poland and Hungary of total 23000. Part of this for sure must belong to Italy too, let it be f.e. 5000 (it is of course heavily overestimated).

On the other side only 28000 Ukrainians have left directly to Italy, but also 6.000.000 to Hungary and Poland, where no transit datas are shown (that should be looked up at some hungarian or polish authority datas), but if we suppose that only 5% have moved on to Italy (which is heavily underestimated), we get, that 250.000 people more travelled to Italy.
So at the end, we have 28000 from Italy, copmared to the 280000 to Italy.

So, according to this not exact esstimation 10 times more people are visiting Italy from Ukraine, than Italians Ukraine.

That was before the events. Times are changing quickly.....
CIA reports: Although final independence for Ukraine was achieved in 1991 with the dissolution of the USSR, democracy remained elusive as the legacy of state control and endemic corruption stalled efforts at economic reform, privatization, and civil liberties. A peaceful mass protest "Orange Revolution" in the closing months of 2004 forced the authorities to overturn a rigged presidential election and to allow a new internationally monitored vote that swept into power a reformist slate under Viktor Yushenko. The new government presents its citizens with hope that the country may at last attain true freedom and prosperity.

The Cia is well informed, they already know how many Ukrainians there soon will be: Ukraine, Population: 47,425,336 (July 2005 est.)

I dont get you, how the change of the goverment is connected with the quantity of people travelling between the countries?

Just in brackets I would advise you not to orientate on this U.S. propaganda. I've dealed with the country for years, and without being connected to any of the parties and being not a voter, I can tell you, that the situation is much more complicated, and for sure not the like it was described in the western media.
