Emirates on its way to Canada via Brussels?

Post by press »

Dear all,

According to a rather reliable source, Emirates might be on its way to Canada via Brussels?!
Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver are mentioned as potential Canadian destinations.
Emirates executives are planning a formal visit to Brussels later this year.

Who knows more?

It's again a rumour. Why would Emirates fly via Brussels??
It would be nice, but I have my doubts.

Etihad Airways has LOST out on a contract to be the representative UAE carrier in Toronto and has thus cancelled its proposed AUH-BRU-YYZ 3 weekly flights
Is this true? I also heard this rumour two weeks ago.
Maybe can someone confirm/deny it ?
As for EK I don't think they will fly to Canada via BRU. They will fly to Canada but certainly directly with their A340-500s.

All those rumours indeed, they are becoming frustrating.
Every time I read this kind of information I am hopeful, but not a lot of those rumours really came out. Wait and see...

Hello

I don't know what all is true of this , but I really hope so.

But I do find it strange that it's almost the exact route (correct?) than that Ethidad wanted to Fly ....Abu-Dhabi-Canada.

So is it just a temporarly replacement? Because I guess Etihad WILL really come at BRU , they have posted a 'jobs' message at BIAC's website a wile ago.

So why would they contract people if they aren't really planning to fly to BRU???

Anyway...hope something is true this time.

Best regards: Yannick ;)

Could it be that your "rather reliable source" is mixing up Emirates with Etihad ?

I doubt EK would reach Canada with 1 intermediate stop.
This was the purpose of acquiring A345.

Flying-Belgian,

Route map : link

Auh-yyz: 11143 km
You don't need a A345:
The A340-200 has a maximum range of 8000nm/14800km.
The A340-300 has a maximum range of 7,400 nm/13,700 km.
The A330-200 has a maximum range of 6,750 nm/12,500 km.
The A340-500 has a maximum range of 9,000 nm/16,700 km.
The A340-600 has a maximum range of 7,900 nm/14,700 km.

When Emirates will make a stop in Bru on their route from AUH to YYZ they will do it because they can pick up extra pax on both directions, and because Bru has no direct links to those 2 cities. So in my opinion it is not about miles but about pax. Just my 2cents.

Greetz,

Dave

@Dave: not that it would make a big difference, but EK fly from DXB and not from AUH.

Dave took the more distant point AUH! Well done, Dave.
AUH (24°25'59"N 54°39'04"E) DXB (25°15'18"N 55°21'51"E) 116 km
DXB (25°15'18"N 55°21'51"E) YYZ (43°40'38"N 79°37'50"W) 11103 km

2. However, Emirates has won the contract to be the UAE flag carrier to YYZ for the time being and will be permitted to fly as many times as Air Canada is allowed to fly to Dubai only. So if AC decides on 4 weekly YYZ-DXB-YYZ flights of its own...then EK too will be restricted to that same amount.
I just wanted to let you all know that these statements are completely false. Etihad Airways will inaugurate the Abu Dhabi-Brussels-Toronto route later this year. Emirates has no intention to fly to Canada via Brussels. However, it is true that a delegation of Emirates decision makers is planning a formal visit to Brussels Zaventem Airport later this year.

Connections advertises now with Etihad flights Brussels - Bangkok from 21st August.
But if you want to book it, no word about Etihad. Hm.
Also no word about Brussels on the Etihad website., just as a future destination.
Not in the shedule.
Too late for me: within some weeks, we are gone to BKK by Gulfair from CDG. Pray for my soul, lost in Term 1 at CDG.

It's a bit more tricky than that.

EK is limited to 3x weekly (DXB-CAnada) and AC, 4x weekly Canada-UAE as per the current UAE-CAnada bilateral agreement.

The plan for EK right now is to start the 3x weekly non-stop DXB-YYZ and upgrade it with a two-class A380 in due time, pending aircraft availability. If in the meantime the bilateral is renegotiated to allow a daily flight, EK will probably send the 3-class A380 to YYZ.

Don't expect to see Emirates at Bru. The only airplane you can see, maybe, is a cargo-airplane. If their is a marked and connections off course.
