Hye all,

Might interest some of you (I hope this has not been already posted), here is a graph of the figures for 2003 and est. 2020 direct flights between Europe - China :

1. I am wondering does anyone of you have an idea of how many direct flights is there weekly between Europe and China for 2005? And what are those routes ?
If any one got those info, I'll be grateful

... Still waiting to know if we will have one day a direct flight from BRU-CAN(out)/PVG(out)/HKG(out?)/PEK(stb), whatever destination, sharecoding or not. (cf. this topic 'List of new and likely long-haul brussels routes')

2. Seems that BRU-PEK through Hainan airline is still on the run ??? Or will be gone to Germany ...

Rem: To conclude my evening course, I am making a paper on the Chinese outbound tourism, impact on Europe and Brussels ... We still have no direct flight. *sight*

We need in the near future a link between Brussels and China. This for many reasons. But who will fly those routes and how many that's de problem. There is now a lot of traffic, so when you will fly this link, you need some aircrafts to do this three or four times a week.
I hope Hainan will be the first.

This graph is Boeing's view of the traffic between Europe and China. It shows which routes can the B787s operate (not only in term of range, but also in term of passengers, freight,...).
Airbus has made a similar graph for the A380s but with a total different view.
While Boeing believes in a point to point traffic, Airbus believes in a hub to hub traffic.

An interesting document you might check is the European Commission's Communication on a Civil Aviation Policy towards the People's Republic of China, document COM (2005) 78 final, published on 11 March 2005. In this document, the Commission outlines its vision of the future EU/China civil aviation market. Although it misses some substance and is a bit superficially written, it gives a fair idea of some future trends.

The Communication, for instance, mentions that eight EU carriers (AF, AY, BA, KL, LH, OS, SK, VS) currently fly between the EU and China while all three main Chinese airline groups (Air China, China Eastern and China Southern) fly to Europe. A total of 21 routes are operated. The largest share of the non-stop traffic is between Germany and China with 38% of the total, while France has 23% and the UK 9%. Of a total number of weekly frequencies between the EU and China of 141 in April 2004 (outdated, but still), Air China had a share of 28% while Lufthansa had 17% and Air France 15%.

More comprehensive info and a few good figures in the abovementioned Communication, which can be consulted on the Commission's home page (http://europe.eu.int/comm/transport/index_en.html).

Happy landings,
Chris

Thanks all for the feedbacks

FYI, I have contacted some persons at cec.eu.int, ecac-ceac, aea, eurocontrol to have updated data concerning air routes between Europe and China. If I receive interesting feedback, I'll post it here.
