A380 airbridge: your opinions needed

Post by habs »

Hello all, As part of my final year project on an Aerospace Business Systems degree I have chosen to design a new airbridge to board passengers on both levels of the new A380.

In order to make the airbridge stand out from the rest I have come up with three different directions I can take it in. The first is to have windows along the airbridge. The second is to have a transparent roof. The third option is to have a transparent airbridge, and this is where you guys come into it, hopefully. I though it would be a good idea to conduct some market research and ask you folks to decide. So please take part in the poll. Your comments would be most welcome and i will let you know the results. Thanks

Whatever is decided, make sure you have good airco in the jetbridges, because when they're in the sun all day, it becomes steaming hot in there

I voted for a transparent airbridge, but have to add a non transparrent floor ! Otherwise you could look up under the skirts of the women boarding the upper deck ...

I also voted for transparent airbridges, because you can take nice photographs from it

Riga Skulte Airport has nice airbridges (both the "walls" are glass) and I made some great photographs from it.

Standard airbridge with transparent walls only: it is always nice to see where you are and where you go. But a transparent roof would change it into a sauna.

I voted for a standard airbridge with windows because if you had windows on the roof, it would be difficult to clean and look dirty like Air France's planes ;).

I voted for a transparent airbridge, but without a transparent floor. I'm not sure if a transparent roof will make a big difference in temperature. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's how the airbridges are in BRU pier A.

Also transparent but with a normal floor and roof.

I voted for the standard airbridge becuase it seems the cheapest. (I could be wrong.) Airports are having to spend millions of dollars already so a fancy jetbridge is not that high on my priority list, nor do I think it's high on the lists of airport managers.

I think an all-glass airbridge is actually more like a greenhouse than a sauna.
Anyway there should be some way to look outside when you're in the airbridge, the ones at WAW have no windows whatsoever, not nice IMO.

Also you might have people that are a little bit afraid of height, I mean people that are okay in 'planes for height, but are a little unsteady on their feet on a transparent walkway even a few feet off the ground!

Maybe you would like the floor of the upper deck itself to be transparent as well?
