Martinair B747-400F's !!

Hi All,

News just in, Martinair has signed an LOI to lease 5 B747-400SF's from Guggenheim Aviation Partners. 2 for 2007 delivery, the rest in 2008/2009.
Four of the five aircraft are 24061/24066/24226/24975 ex Singapore Airlines

Not everybody knows SF in 747-400SF stands for Special Freighter.
Boeing itself (on boeing.com) says 747-400F or 747-400ERF.

Must have been something against the forum-rules, will check with the other admins as I don't have any background-information.

This weekend someone told me aswell that they are going to buy two 747-300's. People I work with in the weekend don't like this because these aircraft are no official cargo aircraft and this might give problems with long pieces of cargo. (this because the nose can't be opened).

I'll try to get more info...

It's nice that they will get some B744SF's, is Martinair also looking for some B744F's, because like mentioned before, it could cause some problems because the SF's won't have a nose cargo door.

I read that they wanted to dispose of the classic B747's because of the rising fuel costs, which add up even more with those old beauties.

I think they should just invest in B744F's like B744skipper says..... The nose discussion is important!

New B744f's have low fuel cost (compared to older 747's) and much lower maintenance costs. _
