MADRID (AFX) - Boeing Co hopes to reach "equilibrium" with Airbus in two years thanks to a recovery in the US market, Randolph Baseler, vice president for marketing told Expansion newspaper in an interview.
Baseler said the decline in the US market after September 11 2001 "will end in two years and the market will be able to absorb all delayed orders."
"Then Boeing and Airbus will reach equilibrium," he said.
"If this year we can deliver 320 planes, in 2006 we are hoping to sell between 375 and 385," he said.
I actually should change the subject after reading an article about Boeing expecting to beat Airbus on aircaft orders in 2005!
Airbus has delivered more airplanes than Boeing since 2003 and has taken more orders since 2001. 8)
Boeing won 272 orders in 2004 and missed its target of booking 200 orders for the 787 Dreamliner. Airbus signed 366 orders last year.
As of March 29, Boeing's Web site shows the company has 44 firm orders so far in 2005.
The 737-NG jet continues to be the company's top seller!! Boeing delivered 54 of the 737s during the first quarter. The next closest was eight deliveries for the 777.

I wonder how much profit the B737 series had made in lifetime. Since it is in production since 1966 (is this the aircraft that has been the longest produced one?). At least it must have made a lot of money for Boeing.

So is the Boeing 747-100 to the B747-400, but almost everyone says about the B747 being in production for 35 years now.
I agree with you that there are a lot of differences between the classic's and the NG's. But it is still based on the same design, like with the A320 family.
The 717 is based on the DC9 design also, but the cockpit and every single piece of electronics, wires and system have been totally redesigned and new technology engines added.
I would call it a new model!
What will the future bring? Imagine this website still exists within 10 years. And we talk about the A380-400 with extra wingtips and fuselage extensions before and after the wing, getting another 200 pax on board.
First launch customer would be Vietnam Airlines which uses by then the completely new airport outside HCM at Bien Hoa as the main asian hub.
They place an order of 56 A380-400 with an option for another 40 planes.
Who knows?

The Airbus board first needs to give the go ahead for the A350, and the A380 market is very limited in my opinion (60-80 airframes in the foreseeable future, plus the ones already ordered).

Boeing has done increadibly well with sales, since the beginning of this year. Mainly due to its new sales team and a new product B787 which has spurned a lot of intrest. Lets not forget that Boeing did have a head start with this project and more details are known in relation to the A350-800/900.
But may I remind you all that Airbus loves the spot light more than anyone else. Am sure that Airbus has many things up its sleeves for the up coming Paris Air Show in June 2005.
Another point to take into consideration is that:
B717- good as dead as of 2006
B757- gone
B767- good as dead. At least in terms of civil transport. Awaiting the tanker order by the USAF.
B747- good as dead if the ADV is not launched. Orders coming in very slow especially for the passenger model.
Basicly Boeing will have to go on two models to until 2009, the B777 and B737, when the new B787 will be in full production and as this is a will include a revolutionary construction certification may take longer.
