Problem with MSFS2004 and Windows XP

Post by Yaroslav »

Good evening.
Several days ago I had to reformate my disk because of a virus. And I have descided to install my new Windows XP Professional. Before I had Windows 2000 Professional and I had some crashes of MSFS of couse, but I was running it with rather "hard" display settings and I have not had any major problems. And now when I launch MSFS2004 (with default settings!)
and I go to any airport with any aircraft I get a crash of MSFS after 2 or 3 seconds :x. But when I launch it in "Safe Mode" I get no problems (but graphics is not better than in FS98 and there is no traffic and...).
So I think that the problem is in settings of MSFS2004. But I cannot belive that my computer is not fast enough. Here is my system configuration:
AMD Athlon 1.53 GHz
Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1 version 2002
512MB RAM
DirectX 9.0
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 64MB
Display 1024x768
MSFS2004 version 9.1 800x600
Can anybody help me ?

Had the same problem with FS2002, called to the helpdesk and couldn't help. Louwsy service.
It's because you updated from 2000 to XP, that's the problem.
Sorry, can't give you a sollution

Sounds like you may have a Video card driver problem, maybe try downloading the current driver from Nvidia.

I too think that it is a video driver problem. Make sure that a) you have updated your Windows XP (run windowsupdate, although I think XP does this automatically) and b) get the latest drivers for your videocard.

Good luck,
Wim.

Hi everybody!
Many thanks to statler and bits44 . As you told the problem was the driver for the graphics card. Now everything works :D.
And many thanks to everybody who tried to help me too.
