Post by cathayoneworld »

Airport of the Year survey conducted by Skytrax will be announed on 7th April 2005. Which airport do you think is the winner of this year? Why?

My guess is HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT :D

Not Dubai? I think that is the best airport I've been in, only KLIA comes close to it for me!

KLIA is great, but it seems that it has too few shopping facilities and poor floor plan design. However, I'm sure that KLIA is one of the best airport in the world. :)

My vote also goes to Kong Kong. I read a lot of good things about this airport recently.

KLIA in Sepang (80 km distance from KL) is the best airport I ever been to, before Singapore who is also a great airport.
The KLIA has everything, great design buildings,
and with the high-speed train you be in 30 min.
down town Kuala Lumpur!!!

I've been cheating a little bit: I added Brussels to the list.

I guess that more members have been to Brussels than to any other airport. And people tend to vote for what they know rather than for anything better they don't know.

Now let's see if it works.

I remind you that I vorted for Hong Kong, where I have never been...

The only one that I've been to in that list is Heathrow, and that is DEFINITELY not the best airport. I hate how they make you wait in a lounge to find out where your airplane is!! No vote for me.

Why aren't ORD, LAX, and ATL, on that list? :? ORD is the world's busiest airport and LAX and ATL are very large.

Even though this airport isn't close to being one of the world's largest, I would have to say Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl. It has great restaurants and I have always found the airport to be very clean. It's architecture is beautiful aswell. If you would like to find more info about PHX: you can visit their website at: http://phoenix.gov/AVIATION/

The airport logo I have in my signature, Austin Straubel Intl., is my local airport. It is not my favorite airport, but I like it for my flying lessons because it is close and doesn't have a huge amount of traffic, which allows me to get up into the air faster. If you would like to find more info about GRB: you can visit their website at: http://www.co.brown.wi.us/airport/

yes, a USA airport is very likely. But many travellers have no sympathy towards USA travel because of strikes, messy transport to/from the airports, regulations and security checks and so on.
In that respect an asian airport is likely to take the lead.
Despite the flashy Dubai airport, I wouldn't choose it. (Dubai is constructed as a big hub, not because we like to go to Dubai. Therefor it is absolutely unforgivable you cannot pay in euro, pounds or dollars, but in the local currency. Toilets are unclean. Officials cannot hide their disliking of foreigners. When the A380's will start to dump 550 passengers in one go, it will only get worse)
Absolute no no is CDG, LHR and FRA.
Düsseldorf is very convenient, just like Munich and Dresden. All quite new airports.
AMS isn't bad at all. Recent visits were very convenient, parking just 10 steps from the airport building. From parking to arrivals just 5 minutes walking. Quick luggage handling, international trained staff, just what you expect it should be.
Despite the many travellers, I suspect "Brussels South" to be no contender. Even its name is a hoax.

I'm staying loyal to my "home-airport" AMS, compared to the other airport I have been to (LHR), AMS really rocks the boat a lot better.
