With daily flights to Kuala Lumpur from Delhi, connecting the two capitals
introduced to coincide with the summer schedule of the airline, the total frequency between Kuala Lumpur and Delhi has gone up to 14 and the seat capacity has increased by 2,030 in the sector.

In fact, the summer schedule 2005 will see a quantum jump in Indian Airlines' international operations - from 151 flights to 178 per week in 18 destinations

According to the last edition of the bilateral aviation agreements posted on the Indian aviation department web site, the agreement with Thailand allows each side entitlements of 9,895 seats a week. This is more than to any other Asean country. Malaysia comes next with 7,000 seats. :)
The most important of the new IA flights is the daily non-stop one between Bangkok and Bombay which will compete directly with the existing THAI flights on the same sector.

The national flag carrier, Indian Airlines, which already has its presence in the region, has been quick to respond, the airline’s officials told visiting reporters after the inaugural flight here from Delhi on Sunday. In its international leg of operations, Indian Airlines has been flying to Singapore and Jakarta since 1953 and began its Chennai-Kuala Lumpur-Chennai link in May 1994.

Heathrow

I thought the flag carrier was AI! Boy, I'm under a rock

AIR INDIA is the national carrier of INDIA.

Come out of the Rock  Heathrow. You are correct. The Flag carrier is AI :)

I think AlistairBastian has confused with IC aka Indian Airlines the DOMESTIC CARRIER of INDIA, which was using some of the AI's unused SLOTS for International as the national carrier. If he is trying to say that Indian Airlines is the national flag carrier and Air India is the international flag carrier, then yes, he should have been more specific.
Aum Sweet Aum.

After Air Deccan planning to go IPO ... its Indian Airlines And Air India next.
The airlines will sell some of its shares through an initial public offering (IPO), :) Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel had earlier indicated that 10 percent shares of both Indian Airlines and Air-India would be offered to the public.

Indian Airlines to start courier service
Indian Airlines (IA) proposes to commence its own retail courier and freight services to tap the huge domestic courier/cargo business, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

For this purpose, Indian Airlines proposes to convert five Boeing 727 aircraft, initially, into freight aircraft, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said in a written reply.

Both Indian Airlines and Air-India have been advised to go ahead with the tendering process for appointment of IPO advisors, the Minister said.
