E-ticketing

E-ticketing can be one of the ways airlines can save money on printing cost (yes save a couple of trees :D ). E -ticketing eliminates the need of agents and get the airlines closer to the people

International Air Transport Association (IATA) members are aiming for 100 per cent global implementation of electronic ticketing by the end of 2007, and non-compliant airlines will have to issue their own tickets at a much higher cost and witness a loss of customers :roll:

Yes, however some flights do not offer E-Ticketing. I have 4 BA flights in the summer, 2 of which are paper and the other two E-ticket. Does this have to do with Long-haul short-haul, or non-E.U. and E.U. destinations?

@Heathrow, I think that it is up to airline policy for deciding when they issue a paper ticket or not.
I know that KLM will or has switched to a system where only e-tickets will be used, and they charge extra for people who want a paper ticket.

yes, but paper was manditory for my flights (BA2642, BA2643 737-??? LGW-SKG-LGW),
and E-Ticket was manditory for the other ones
(BA92, BA97, 747-400 & 777-200 YYZ-LHR-YYZ)
Why would they have different rules?

:roll: till 2007 hmmm we might see paper tickets atleast thats wat IATA says. Low cost carriers promotes booking on their website . This atleast the travel agent saving cost to airlines :wink:

well e-tickets are so easy, because you cant loose them. Unless you loose yourself, then you have a prolem!

I was wondering what happens to the industry which takes care of the ticketing for the airline, WHAT DO WE CALL THEM :roll: UMM :!:

Does the airline not have to pay them....................Did Speedwings charge British Airways or what :?:

i am doing my graduation project on customers experiences initiatives & customer satisfaction in aviation sector.
any ideas or new servises provided to cutomers on board or in the airport will help my project.

I used an e-ticket to get to cayman over X-mas. It was good, as it was of no value to anyone unless they looked like me and had my passport.
Gayman-Havana with Cayman Airways was paper, and my Mum had to keep the tickets on her at all times in Cuba so people didn't steal them.

The whole E-ticketing thing enables web based check-in systems, where you can pick your seat 30 hours or so before the flight, this is a wonderful feature. On some airports it even allows you to bypass the absurdly long check-in lines, used by people who did not or could not use the internet check-in.

Another thing is getting the tickets. For example, if you buy a ticket directly from LOT in Holland, the only way to get it is to pick it up at the airport. They don't yet offer E-tix on the route to WAW. If you don't live next to the airport, the only sensible option is to pick the ticket up on the day of your departure. Of course the LOT ticket desk is located in an extremely well-hidden corner of the airport: at the far end of the ticket counters in Departures 1, and at the other side of the entrance, so you can't see the desk from inside the building; the ticket desks seem to end at the door. I once spent half an hour looking for it. This desk is now called the aviapartner ticket desk, and recently I mistakenly thought that this was a different desk than previously, wasting yet another half an hour. (It also turned out that aviapartner has several ticket counters).

Coming back to picking your seat, Transavia is starting to offer e-tix on package travels bought at a travel agency. If the agent supports it, you can use internet check-in, which is very nice, since these flights are alway full so if you're not at the airport very early you might end up not sitting next to your travel companion.
