Good post, think Air India should also shed its age old livery(the only airline which has its livery unchanged till now) and go in for something like this, and why did Air India start a low cost airlines, they could have promoted Alliance Air.

Welcome to Luchtzak, Vivek0072 :)
Thank you for the compliment of a good post. Let me address your queries one by one.

 I think AirIndia  because of its livery. The AIRINDIA logo both in ENGLISH & HINDI give it a very distinct image and advantage. Many people are nostalgic about the colour and yes the saggitarian. It has earned itself the status of being a Maharaja of the skies.

 AirIndia started AirIndia Express because it wanted to operate a low-cost airline and deploy most of its premium services to Europe, UK, USA and beyond. It may be noted that most of the aircraft AI has will get free and many other routes can be deployed and additional alloted slots still be used in current destinations. Also the pricing factor makes a lot of difference. AirIndia has announced that the fare to Sharjah will be Rs.6500/- which on AirIndia would have looked as if the airline is stepping down. So i think that AI by starting AIE has made a good start and yes, a sensible move.

 And Alliance Air is a subsidiary of Indian Airlines not Air India. So to promote the same is a decision which Indian Airlines has to take and not Air India. (It could be possible that IC does give it some of its routes)

Please be updated that Air India Express will be taking to skies in April 29th 2005. There will be a fleet of 14 Boeing 737-800s, which will be taken on dry lease in three phases. These aircraft will have 181 Economy Class seats in single class configuration. The new airline will operate 63 flights per week when six aircraft are inducted on dry lease at the time of the launch. With the induction of four more aircraft, effective winter 2005, Air India Express will operate 38 additional flights, and add another 26 flights in the third phase effective April 2006, when four more aircraft will join the fleet. Thus, within a year of operations, Air-India Express will operate a total of 127 flights with 14 aircraft to destinations in the Gulf and South-east Asia.

All Air India Express flights in the first phase, operated on Quick Turn Around (QTA) basis, will cover three online points in Kerala, Delhi-UAE/Oman and Chennai-Singapore/Kuala Lumpur. In the second phase, Air India Express will operate daily flights on Chennai-Dubai, twice-daily flights on Delhi-Dubai and Chennai-Singapore sectors. In the third phase, flights will be operated between Kerala, Mumbai and Doha/Bahrain; between Kerala, Mumbai, Chennai and Kuwait; and between Kolkata/Guwahati and Bangkok.

After the entry of low-cost carriers like Air Arabia and Air India Express, the traffic on the India-Gulf sector is expected to grow sustantially. Industry players opine that this increase could be as high as 30%.
