Changes in forum-rules: signature-related

Post by luchtzak »

Luchtzak-members,

we like to apply a new rule in the forums, it's rule number 24: https://www.aviation24.be/postp21198.html#21198

Please only put 1 url in your signature, besides you can already put 1 website in your forum-profile.

Please don't put images in your signature, images will be removed ASAP.

thanks for cooperation,

the admin-team

Does the image rule include smilies in signatures?

Could be crappy, but lately we noticed that signatures are getting bigger and bigger and have more and more urls and images.

why dont you then define a maximum length for the sig instead of forbidding all images and more then one link. That way everybody would be able to develop his sig the way he wants, as long as it stays within the length limit.

btw, i do not see the differece bewteen 3 lines of URL-free text and 3 url's under eachother.

there are signatures with only text that are longer (= taking more space) than certain signatures with images... Maybe it would better to throw the avatars out, so it will definitely become a boring forum.

To me, small image signatures like killerwhale65 has are fine.
In an other hand, if we doesn't pay attention, Luchtzak will looks like this one:

No offense to the members of this forum.

Don't the Moderators have to show the good example?

To be honest I'm in favour of this rule. Putting images in the signature is just over loading the forum pages when you read a topic.

The link HorsePower gave is a good example and we certainly don't want Luchtzak to be like that in the future.

I know it's far from being like that, but when several people start to have images in their signatures other will follow.

I agree with you Chris, once signature images start getting more common they won't stop.

Especially when you're a moderator you should agree, or discuss about it with the other moderators, before the signatures are modified without any notice to the members.
How can a forum being taken serious when there's no "consensus" between the moderators, and when there's even one of them who declares "I don't give a sh :censored: about rules"

Rago,

I think you are mixing administrators with moderators.

Moderators moderate a particular part of the forums, in this case we have an entire team of moderators that take care of the planespotting-forums. They have been promoted just one month ago.

Administrators and for your info: the first administrator (sabena_690 FYI) joined the webteam from day 1, the last administrator joined the webteam more than 1 year ago. Being administrator so long on www.luchtzak.be have more things to say on this website. I didn't take this decision all by myself, I have asked the opinion of the administrators. They all agreed that it's better to have only 1 url and no more image in everybody's signature. Besides what should be in a signature? The word 'signature' says it all: your name, nickname, a quote or at the end you can put a url to a website (note that we already have a special place where you can leave your personal website, it's in your profile and here =>Image)

Lately I (and other administrators) have noticed a trend that people put not less than 4 urls in their signature, some people use an 80kb-image with size 400X300 (sort of speaking) and others tell their entire life (take this last quote with humor please). When we allow this kind of action in the future and when all members start using the signature like this we end up with a 500kb images-page with 200 links to other websites and if you are lucky you can find some text in between all those signatures.

Therefor we implemented the new rule, now when one of the moderators objects to this new rule it's his/her right to do so. Yes, it was better to have this conversation in private and yes, I can perfectly live and understand that some members/moderators object to a certain rule. But at the very end the rule stays, if you like it or not.

Now relax and go back to the thing we are good at: talking aviation matters!

greetings,

Bart

How can you moderate a forum when you can't moderate yourself?

I would like to thank the admins for this new rule, it will increase the quality of the fora, and put an end to the anoying signatures nobody ever reads (more than once)...

Id agree with Killerwhale, And if I was him I wouldnt do something I didnt want to do to please everyone else. If he is against it why should he give in. Id just keep it up if I had one, and leave the forum if I was forced too.

To me the pictures look better then a load of writing but hey lets stem the creativity, Lets cap peoples opinions, Lets close all the threads that 1 or 2 people find offensive. Great forums.

SicilianFalcon - you are not a Moderator on this forum, it does look bad when a member of the Webteam publicly defies the rules laid down by the Admins. The idea of being a Moderator on any forum is to ensure that forum rules are adhered to, and that means adhering to them yourself and not just deciding to ignore any rule which does not suit you.

Moderators do not have say in making the forum rules, but we have a duty to uphold them and set a good example to other members.
