AirBus A380 running into test problems
Airbus stress tests have caused signifcant failures, and may not be resolved speedily
Reports from German sources have stated that serious stress cracks developed during testing of the A380 at the rear of the plane, as well problems with the landing gear have also been discovered.
Engineers expect the first test flight may be delayed weeks or even months pending resolution of the problems.

No I haven't seen the article in Der Speigel, but thats what these stress tests are for, I thought they might have some problems though, it seemed they rushed this project through but you never know, and they are probably only telling the press the bare essentials. You know the smoke and fire thing?

The whole point of structural testing is exactly to break stuff. The question is not "will it break ?" but "when ?".
In most cases, when your plane breaks up beyond 150% of the limitation you intend to get certified, you're still good. I don't know what's going on at Airbus, but it may be a little early to talk about problems ?

This is the reason they conduct such testing: to discover aspects in the design that are not yet fail-safe. Only normal some things pop up, I prefer that this happens in a test-phase rather than later on in flight with pax on board.
There are examples in the past where, if extensive fatigue testing had been done, many lives would have been saved.

European planemaker Airbus said the development of its A380 superjumbo remained on track and denied problems had been encountered during stress tests on the aircraft ahead of its first flight.
"The preliminary findings indicate we are moving in the right direction," said spokesman David Voskuhl on Monday. "No serious problems have been encountered."

Maybe PR!
This isn't a form or Boeing PR or anything is it? I mean with the unveiling of the aircraft... Forgive my scepticism on this!

We will see. I believe airbus will make their deadline. It is normal they encounter problems during testing. Otherwise their would be no purpose on testing if everything seemed to be ok from the start.
This is just part of the engineering of the plane. It has to be done and problems will be solved. That is what engineers are supposed to do!

Apparently someone is lying?Avro wrote:There are maybe some minor problems but in my opinion the media is making out of this a big case.
Problems do occur during such testing periods.
