It's a little :offtopic: but I saw on justplanes.com that OX is going to open a new route from BKK to Billund. The route will be flown by a B742 twice weekly.
I must say that I was quite impress that even a regional airport like this one get a connection to Thailand :!: , and not BRU
Can someone explain to me why OX has chosen this route?
Thanks in advance :D
I hope BRU will get this asian link so expected in the near future.

Since I'm taking a holiday to Phuket in November, I was wondering if someone knows the flightplan (countries you fly over) for this trip?

It all depends on where ur flying from.

The normal route would be (in my case to bangkok)

From Heathrow...

Netherlands
Germany
Czech republic
Slovakia
Hongary
Romania
Bulgaria
Black Sea
Turkey
Iran
Afghanistan (very small part)
Pakistan
India
Coast of Burma
Thailand

but like i say, it all depends from where ur leaving..

Because when you get near it, with the airline you use, it is usually pit dark.
Try to fly on a full moon night! And check this out: BRU-FRA-BKK-HKT

Yeah ur right SN30952, i usually pass it when it's dark....

Athos, it will be very strange.. for instance if ur departing at 11:00, it will get dark at 15:00 8O hehe... because of the time differences. The whole trip it will be dark, BUT when you have clear skies it's awesome to watch the light downstairs when passing Pakinstan, India, etc... really amazing how different that is from europe (all covered with lights)

Anyway, enjoy your trip !

PS: 1 tip, don't act as european in Asia, try to get the feeling of being asian.. wear slippers, wear casual clothes, have the same food like they have, etc ... ;)

This route is not the standard route. Like I said, it all depends of the airport ur leaving and even on the airline company ! My routes we're much more southern ;)

Because eastbound you fly into the night, and westbound you follow the night :cool2:

Mingle but do no imitate. Be yourself, respect them, they might respect you, but do not expect too much. You will experience the culture shock, for sure.
You will see Thais impose on Westerners their "Do & don't do", but they do not bother too much about the feelings of a 'falang'*.
And politness is a matter of power (and fear), if you are the boss or a superior, politeness will be shown. If you are a subaltern or inferior you're dirt. (This is asian, not only thai: remember how Amelie Nothomb discribed that in her award winning book.)
Keep in mind the governing party in Thailand is: Thai Rak Thai, meaning Thais like Thais, a kind of 'Eigen volk eerst'!
And also do not forget the high murder rate of Thailand. This is not always the land of smiles, or the land of the free, but the land of the jealous. Read my post Murders (per capita) (Top 100 Countries) So take good care of you, and as DAT202D meant, try not to attract attention.

Maybe we should move now to 'Cityguide'?

*falang is a Westerner, European. From the word francais (the colonial power in the area was France -Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam- so the freigners they met were mostly francais. And since they cannot pronounce the 'R' nor two 'consecutiveconsonants', they say falan-cais >> falang, although it is written farang!)

My flight to Thailand in 2000 with TG was a night flight with arrival in BKK at 6.30: no remote chance to see the Himalay. But the return flight was a day flight with a superb view on the mountains during many hours.

I absolutely agree with this. But what i ment was, try not to give thais the feeling you are better then them like wearing expensive stuff, you know.. all kinds of things thais cannot have.. Don't give them the feeling ur superior or better then them, they hate that !

But most of all they will appreciate you and laugh to you when you try to feel the thai culture.. Ofcourse you need to stay yourself, but hardest thing is to forget about europe when u are there. Once again, try to live asian style ;)

Oh yeah and one last warning... 'u'll get addicted to Thailand :D'

Well,

First of all, I already visited Thailand many years ago. I have to say, it was a very nice holiday. There it was the first time I eat a green pepper, not knowing how hot it was :-). They told me it tasted like a green bean we have over here in Belgium

I've been to India twice, on a business trip. Always held a low profile and respected the local people.

Concerning the Thai and Indian food, we like it very much. We have a lot of cookbooks, Indian as well as Thai food :-).

We even planned to take some cooking lessons in the resort where we will stay.

I am sure we will enjoy our stay in Phuket.

As for the flight, we should leave Brussels around 16.45h and arrive around 12.00h the other day.
Stop in Goa.

Yes, Regi, I was personally in their office in BKK. It smelled like turkish maffia....
Never ever did I feel such an hostile and incompetent attitude in any airline head office as there.
Incompetence was paramount, female staff looked hired for totally different capacities than aviation....

Seit dem 16. Mai stehen die Boeing-Maschinen am Boden.
Any idea what happened with the turkish B757s happened since?

so Thaijet sounds like a "no go"

I keep it in mind. Thai business friends were thinking about Thaijet to attend a trade fair in Germany. If they really want to get there, they better take a airline with a better reputation

Got once a upgrade with China Airlines to business because of over booking. Was nice, certainly nice.
The gang of dutch people who shouted and argued just got a hotel voucher.

Enjoy your trip.

Chiang Mai Luchtzak reunion soon, DAT202D? Sanook sanook.

Februar 2005 soll der Flugbetrieb mit einer Boeing 747-300 wieder aufgenommen werden.
I suggest your business relation gets some information at Phuket Airlines, Regi.
They will judge by themself reading this thai website called Crime manager....
