Good places to spot at Oostende?

Post by gunslinger »

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me some places to take pictures at Oostende? I know that there are only adhoc cargo flights, but when something nice shows up, it's allways worth a ride. A link to a site where good information can be find is also okay. I've never been there, perhaps that's good to mention. I know how to get there 8O , but I need to know some good spots.

Negative, that depends on what will arrive on that specific day. I'll have a close look on belgian teletekst. I'd like to see MK. Ethiopian's nice, but: how do I get there :?:

If you want to get to the airport you can catch a bus outside the railway station.

A bus? Get real, I'm not travelling by bus, but by car. I'm coming from NL, direction antwerpen-Oostende. So can anyone perhaps tell some good photospots around the field? That's not so difficult I assume, or is it? :? How do I have to drive to reach a good spot? Or just give me a link to a site where this kind of information is mentioned.
Thnx in advance.

As for "get real" - how was I supposed to know you were in a car? I am not a psychic! And what is wrong with travelling by bus? There is a perfectly reasonable (at least when compared with what I am used to) bus service to Oostende airport.

If you wanted specific directions related to car travel, then you should have said so in your original post, and not assumed that people would automatically know you were in a car.

As for my quote: GET REAL you couldn’t know I travel by car, or even if I would walk there you couldn’t know, but when I ask for some photo spots and the answer I get is: taking a bus from the railwaystation and nothing more additional then that, that’s not too much of usable info, I hope you understand. Excuse me for the inconveniance.

A simple word of advice to gunslinger

Most humbly i would ask you to look before you leap, especially when it comes to speaking with Sister Louise

She is an authority here. And her advice is clear, correct and yes to the point.

Gunslinger - back to the topic. I was in Oostende last year, and I managed some good photos and some video from the cafe on the first floor of the terminal. It depends what kind of footage you are wanting really. We were there at a quiet time (early afternoon on that particular day) and only saw one movement, other aircraft were parked at the terminal being loaded for later departures. If you are wanting DC8s that is certainly the place to get them.

photospots

Post by gunslinger »

Hi guys,

for the photography I'm looking for? Well, I had a look at airliners.net, and this is what I would like to see or make:
http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search then type Ostend, and look at the runway pictures of the mka, or evergreen. That's what I like to see, if it's possible that is. There is a pic from an an12 from air Sofia, on short finals, that's the better work...I can't insert a link, because the text I have to paste is way too large. There are pics from a Gemini MD11F, making it's touchdown on rwy26, or a DAS cgo DC10, also on touchdown RWY26, the plane is coming in from right to left. That's nice stuff, isn't it? Take a look please, and tell me if it's possible. I know flights aren't scheduled and are just adhoc, but I can allways look at Belgian teletekst.

Cheers.

Hope this helps. A small map I drew some years ago ...
The spot you are looking for is spot Nr. 8
BUT you need a ladder, minimum a 5-step ladder, cause there's a 3.5m high fence !

Small note : Spots nr. 1, 2 and 7 are no longer available as the airport put up new fences that block the way to those spots. Also the curve on the end of spot 8 has been closed off, you can only use the section parallel to the runway.

Greetz,
