Either way, Bombardier does hold a good position to compete with Airbus and Boeing. Actually, Boeing has kind of left that market by withdrawing the 717 from production. Aibus still has the A318 to compete with (unless if there's something smaller that I'm not aware of). Embraer has already sort of entered this market with the EMB-170/190. Well Boeing and Airbus never really developed an ideal plane of that size (100 seater). Both just made derivatives of their popular families i.e. B736 and the A318. They are part of a family and thus have some advantages I agree, but aren't optimized for those type of ops.
On the other hand Bombardier and Embraer who really focus on those types of planes, are able to build models which are better adapted to the demand for the 100 seat market.
Seeing the popularity of the regional market, I'm surprised Boeing or Airbus hasn't announced plans to compete in that market. Should bring in more bucks!!!!!!!

It could bring them some money, but I suppose that the competition with Embraer and Bombardier would be very hard if Airbus and Boeing join the battle on that level.
Both Boeing and Airbus can probably make more money with their long haul planes, where the competition is smaller and the profit margin probably higher.
Later a European group, made up of companies EADS, Dassault, Thales, and Snecma, took over 20% of the Embraer share control.

I'm not aware particularly about defense industries but among other things, EADS owns:
100% of Eurocopter
100% of Eurofighter
80% of Aibus
45% of Dassault
It sounds like Bombardier is competing with the EMB-190 and the A-318 rather than Boeing. Like I said earlier, Boeing will not have an airplane in that seating capacity. Good luck to Bombardier, it's always nice to see aircraft manufacturers venture into the unknown....

And what kind of plane is the B736???
But the B736 has a capacity of 110 pax in two class layout and 132 in single class layout if I remember well.
So in fact the ERJ 190 is just below that level.
This being said the ERJ190 is certainly a competitor to the B736, because companies who would like to buy the B736 might also consider the ERJ190.
That depends, do airlines want fleet commonality??? If it is an airline wanting to expand its market to smaller density routes, the 736 is a good choice if they already operate the 737. If it is a smaller airline wanting to increase its seating on some routes/expanding its routes, they might opt for the EMB-190 or this new bird because they may be cheaper (this is subject to debate because the manufacturer and airline always negotiate the price).
