too bad loved to have seen a 747-??? double deck flying around in the skies , especially in asia as they here use almost only 747--400 and 777-200/300

I think what the article you are referring to relates to the 747 advanced which is still in the works, the article I linked to is referring to a completely new aircraft, such as a complete double deck extension.

It wouldn't make sense for boeing to design a completely new double decker, as they are stating that the expecteg sales in this segment should be low. If they build a VLA like the A380 they would kill the A380 but their own project at the same time...

But concerning the B747 replacement, the jumbo is still in a niche market between the 773 and 346 on one side and the A380 on the other side. It would make sense for them to redesign the actual B744 for replacement in companies which still need high capacity aircraft, but not as much as the A380 can offer.
