It's now Sunday, 15h30. In 20 minutes, the Tristar arrives at BRU:

06/02 Punta Cana via Puerto Plata, TUB8664
15:17 scheduled
15:50 delayed

Hope there's somebody with a digital camera at EBBR

(ETA indeed is announced as "15h17")

Why?

Post by Schep »

Those flights are always late !

But why? Technical problems with the plane?

Thanks
Vincent

Vincent, this is your first post on this forum. Welcome to Luchtzak.

The Caribbean/Asian/African charter flights operated for Belgian tour operators (Thomas Cook, TUI Jetair) are often late since the demise of Sobelair and CityBird because there is no Belgian charter airline anymore that has long-haul planes like the workhorse of this market, the B767.

The tour operators have thus to rely on foreign airlines to provide the suitable planes. These are not always available, they also have their technical problems, indeed, or financial problems (like BelgiumExel, which is a Dutch airline despite the name).

Part of the problem might be solved when TUI will be flying its newly acquired B767 OO-TUC. Thomas Cook is still looking for a solution; meanwhile, problems might continue.

Thanks for your reply !

There is always a victime ! TUI et TC don't work with a reliable partner and that's the problem...

I am a travel agent and for the moment it's difficult to advice the charter flights to the Carribean!

I don't say that there never has been problems with SOBELAIR, but at least then you had a Belgian charter,
-upon which you could rely,
-with Belgian crew which spook at least three languages,
-with good maintained and safe aircraft and
-with a good service.

We are only speaking about the long haul charter flights...

For the european destinations, the belgian charter product offers a good value for money :
- Good service
- Flights are on time
- Belgian crew
- New and safe fleet

TUI et TC have to improve the quality of the long haul flights !

Isn't this a topic about "Long haul" charter flights :?:

I don't think I had to specify and was clear enough.

And if.... Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium ever will start his own long haul charter flights, then I only hope that they will have a similar service as the one we used to have on SOBELAIR flights.

I thought this topic was about 767 from TUI ?

And not only about Long Haul like some people think.

Sure, Thomas Cook, but you will recognise that after the demise of both CityBird and Sobelair, the long haul charters have been in shambles in Belgium. Neither TUI nor TCW were able to secure reliable operators for such flights.

ThomasCook wrote:If you have 1 A/C A330 of B767 , and you have technical problems in outstation.... how you get your pax, parts, crew there ??
1 a/c for Belgium + 2a/c for Holland + 1 a/c for.....
4 a/c for the Benelux = commercial minimum.

Yesterday it has again a testflight and today normally he has his first commercial flight, Malaga Lanzarotte.
Then he will go a day to Ostend for some training and then it will start his flights to Cuba.
