The most Spotter friendly Airport in the World?
hello everybody,
ever been to Madeira and visited the Funchal Airport? Well I did and I must say that to my idea there is no match to it's spotter friendly standards in the whole world.
Where can you take your pictures on a dedicated area (specially arranged for spotters) inside the field at approx. 30 meters from the runway?
Where could you get your own spotters/ visitor tag?
By the way; the Madeira Spotters is a bunch of very helpful boys and girls (http://www.madeiraspotters.net)
That's FNC/LPMA. Besides that it is situated very nice between the mountains and the see. I was over there in August 2004 and hope to be able to go back May this year.
happy spotting

Madeira
Hello SicilianFalcon,
indeed Madeira is not LHR, but you still can see some very nice charterflights. On the point of cargo flights I must admit that there really is not much excitement to expect.
But the wether is fine, the view is perfect and with ramp access you can make very nice pictures and don't forget the Madeira Spotters who are very kind to spotters visiting their island. They even drive you around the airfield showing you the best spots on the outside of the field.
This picture was taken by myself. Is this close enough to the aircraft? The man taking the picture of the Sata Internacional is one of the "Madeira Spotters". Tony and Miguel, once again thanks for the hospitality (hope to see you very soon).

Simply take a look at http://www.madeiraspotters.net to see what you can see at Madeira Funchal
enjoy

Madeira
Hello SicilianFalcon,
this shot was not taken while having a spotters tour with a bus or so. The spot where this Madeira Spotter was standing is used by the Madeira Spotters to get a close look at airplanes taking off or landing (I have more photo's taken from this spot, if you would like to see, just let me know).
Before going to Madeira I arranged that I could get the same access as the local spotters at Madeira. That took two friendly emails and when I arrived at Funchal it took approximately 5 minutes (I had to show my passport and had my personal data checked) to get my visitors card/tag.
We were taken to this point by the marshaller. One of the Madeira Spotters actually is Marshaller at FNC and we stayed at that point for quite some time.
Once more, to my this is one of the best spotters airfields in the world.
regards
