CaptainEd, I think I remember once reading about something called Monks Cafe. I think they served Maes for one but it didn't mention others. It must be good to have a Belgian type cafe like that. At the moment we cannot get Stella here, and Maes and Jupiler can be rare too, so on Wednesdays I am having to content myself with Rodenbach, Palm Speciale and De Koninck. I ahve my most special beers on a Saturday because then I don't have to take the dog at 8pm, my Mum takes him out then so I can pour the beer.

Yes, Louise, I love your smilies. Yes, Louise, I remember drinking Primus in the past, when it was selected by the Belgian Consumers Association as the best pils available on the Belgian market. But the situation has changed. The Haacht brewery changed its recipe to save on costs. It is unacceptable for a pils to contain anything else than water, barley and hops. Therefore I boycott Primus, Budweiser, Michelob, Miller, etc. that contain either corn (maize) or rice.

No worries Comet!!! In about 2 centuries, when you'll get civilised, you'll be able to get the best beers (=Belgian Beers)...

Andre - I agree that Michelob and Miller are disgusting things that should never be marketed as beer. I tried them years ago and found them completely tasteless :x

I have had Budweiser on occasions (but not for ages) because I loved that malt taste when you took the first swig of it. I find Primus a refreshing brew. I am aiming to try Cristal sometime, they had it in Bier Tempel in November so I am hoping they have some in March as well.

And those two smilies come from a forum I am setting up to go with my Belgium website. It is a forum which is identical in style to Luchtzak, with the same regular smilies but others you can choose from as well. The two in my post are ones I chose because I just thought they were funny. I have several others as well which are not in the Luchtzak smilie menu.

Tomorrow I don't know what I will be drinking.

Rago - maybe when that loser Blair is (hopefully) booted out at the next election the UK may become more civilised...

Lucky you Rago - I haven't had Brown Leffe in ages. It's my favourite Leffe as well, along with the Radieuse.

Don't worry too much Rago - I still have two bottles of Sloeber and Ename and Bush Blonde in the cupboard. As well as a Rochefort 6. Kwak is too cool as well for cold weather like we have here today. A Leffe Brown would have been ideal.

Beer can save your life! Read this article:

http://www.hln.be/hln/cch/det/art_36771.html

And here is an English translation thanks to Altavista Babel Fish:
Altavista Babel Fish Translation wrote:Slovak goes to the bathroom himself from avalanche a Slovak motorist zat four days permanently in its carriage, but has to itself by much going to the bathroom can bring to safety. Violent sneeuwbuien in Tatra-gebergte caused these yielded avalanches as a result of which the carriage of Richard Kral was completely covered under snow. He twisted its car square open and tried in vain with the hands dig out itself. The 60 half litres brought help to bottles beer which had Richard Kral for its holiday. He drank them for from and went to the bathroom in snow, as a result of which will melt that. This way was possible he after four days gone clear themselves from the avalanche. rescue workers found Kral stomdronken on a mount path and brought him with onderkoelingsverschijnselen to the hospital. According to Kral after some time paired with serious pain to the liver and the kidneys will go to the bathroom.
Anyway he and his car got stuck under an avalanche and thanks to his 30 liters of beer after 4 days he could pee himself to freedom!

That made my day!

Great.

Reminds me of a joke.

One snowy morning, Pres. Bush looks out from his Whitehouse bedroom window, and sees written in the snow in yellow "President Bush is an idiot!"

He got the secret Service and th FBI to investigate, and a few days later, they handed him the full report:

"Sir,
Urinalysis shows the urine came from VP Cheney, and the handwriting analysis showed it to be the hand of Condeleza Rice."

OK, I got a LITTLE political- I beg the forgiveness of all here.

I suppose you should always keep a few cans of beer in case of emergencies then

On Saturday night we are having a new one - Moinette Blonde. Would appreciate any serving tips (ie temperature) for this one.

Just to add that I drink all my beers at the correct temperature when I know what it is

Can't beat a cold pint or bottle of Stella Artois. Somehow the Belgians seem to know how to make good beer
San Miguel is also very nice stuff.
Cold beer in a warm country, you just can't beat it

I too like San Miguel, and the Italian lagers can be very good too. One of our local Italian restaurants serves Morretti and Peroni. Normally the "on tap" beer here in Scarborough is Carlsberg Export, which isn't too bad.

Now with dark beers I never chill them down too much because it kills the delicate taste. If you chill a Leffe Brown to 5 Centigrade then you don't get that lovely taste of roasted nuts like you do when drunk at cellar temperature. Goldens are much hoppier and can stand the chilling process better.

Moinette Blonde was a hoppy beer with quite a bitter aftertaste. Very good though, I shall be having another if the supermarket continues to stock it.

GKirk, with all respect, but in the middle-ages you got burned for this kind of statements... So I'll correct it a little bit : Only the Belgians seem...

Has anybody on here had Blue Moon beer before? I tried it not to long ago. It tastes a lot different than American beers (i.e. Budweiser, Miller, Coors etc.)

BTW: Comet you should come over by where I live sometime. I live only like 100 miles away from the beer capital of the world, Milwaukee!
