A couple of days ago I spoke to a mechanic of Sabena Technics. By coincidence we got into a conversation about long haul. He told me that he was working as well on the B767 OO-TUC.

He was verry pessimistic about getting the plane soon into the air.

I quote; 'Almost every day we find a new major technical problem that will take weeks, or sometimes a month to repair'. 'We think the plane might not even fly before the start of the summer season'

He told me that they are mainly dealing with hydraulic problems (leaks etc), and that was the reason as well for the 'precautionary'-'emergency' landing in Lisboa.

Don't forget that the aircraft was build in 1990 and had, as far as I know, some different owners.

is this a bought or leased plane?

How come this has not been checked out before the agreement? They should have been better of with another plane with not so much problems. Or am i wrong?

OO-TUC is leased from Itocha https://www.aviation24.be/postp51327.html#51327

Who is paying the current backup aircraft of OO-TUC, Itocha I suppose?

Did the Brazilians not take good care of the aircraft? With so much time needed to fix all those technical problems, I hope it is not representative of the state varig's current aircraft are in....

There was also a problem with the paint! The aircraft was painted outside, and there is sand in the paint! So it could be possible a repaint is necessary.

hey guys,

Just to inform that OO-TUC did not departed for the technical flight today.

Serious problem: Fuel was leaking out of wing during fueling.....Normally there was a check foreseen from the aeronautic next thursday to see if the aircraft was airworthy but this is delayed till the end of february!

Let me be very clear about this, that aircraft is the worst I've ever seen!!!!And I cross my fingers for those who have to pass the atlantic ocean with that bird.....

Nevertheless I also doubt if this 767 is ever going to fly again...

Very sad day!

I'm really ashamed to be a Belgian when reading this whole OO-TUC story  The image of the TUB longhaul operations is even more spoiled now...

1) It took more than half a year to get a 767 in Belgium.
2) In the mean time passengers are complaining about the delays,
the bad service and the unfriendly crew on board of TF-FIB.
3) The plane already has to make a emergency landing on its delivery flight !
4) After more than a month of unplanned checks, the plane is still not airwhorty !

Thinking about that, I really miss Sabena : Nice and modern fleet, a brilliant safety record, splendid maintenance and friendly crews...

Regards, Robin Bamps.

Well I guess that's the way it goes in Belgium ... but I wonder, didn't any person or mechanic saw the plane when it was still with Varig?

But indeed, too bad I missed the Sabena time ...

I think it's actually positive they discover the problems now. It flew with VARIg a whole time with those problems, at least the Belgian mechanics discover them...

Just the same excellent service as we were used to have from SOBELAIR too.
A good company who's declared bankrupht without ANY reason

This is indeed a serious problem, but I am positive that with the skill and professionalism Sabena Technics has this aircraft will fly again in the Summer. Hopefully the tourists will not end up in the airport/hotel after hours and hours of delay, that they arrive safely and that the newspapers don't read this topic. A title like 'TUI flies tourists in junk-aircraft to destination' is a nice one just before the holiday-season starts :(

Wasn't it last year that lots of Belgian tourists had to suffer heavy delays, and wasn't this with TUI as well? (correct me when I am wrong)

isnt there something in the lease contract that says that the owner is responsible and for example that TUI has the right to have a replacement AC because of those problems?

That's a very sad news.

I doubt that all those problems occured on the delivery flight. I would rather suspect Varig of not doing a proper maintenance job on that B767.
I hope for them (Varig) that the other planes in their fleet are in a better condition!!!!

Let's hope that OO-TUC will be able to fly again in the near future

Officially, they've got exactly the same maintenance standards as any european carriers... at least on the paper :D .

Het goed is verkocht in de staat waarin het zich bevond op het moment van de aankoop.
