I know airspeed does not mean ground speed.
What I wanted to know is whether the maximum cruising speed of an airplane is constant in Mach or in km/h.
If the airplane is flying at it's maximum speed of Mach 0.85 at 9500m, which should be about 256m/s, and it goes up to 10500m, will it still fly at Mach 0.85 (252m/s@10500m)? Or will it still fly at 256m/s, i.e. Mach 0.86@10500m? Will it fly even faster, because of the reduced drag at the higher altitude? How is an airliner's maximum cruising speed determined?

Air Speed?
It's easy just give this a read through!
It's as clear as a bell, if! your an aeronautical engineer.

Re: Air Speed?
This is how I understand it now: the maximum cruising speed is the speed above which the supersonic airflow over the wing can cause control problems for the aircraft, and is not determined by the maximum thrust the engines can produce?bits44 wrote:It's easy just give this a read through!

Indeed, we even have an image of a Sabena Airbus A380:sn26567 wrote:If we start dreaming, for me it would look fantastic in Sabena colours.

Now the truth comes out
Looks like maybe these will be flying cattle cars.SN30952 wrote:Qatar Airways said its A380s would seat just 490 passengers, but gave no details of its planned cabin layouts.
With seats for 500 passengers, Virgin's A380 could be slightly less spacious than Qatar's

An other one:
Virgin Atlantic has converted theirs 6 options into A380-900.
So VS will fly a total of 6 A388 and 6 A389.
