Famous Aviation Quotes

Post by Advisor »

In reading a lot, i wish to quote the infamous words of the pioneers of Air Travel and people who have promoted it.
It's wonderful to climb the liquid mountains of the sky, Behind me and before me is God and I have no fears. — Helen Keller, at age 74, on flight around the world, news reports of 5 February 1955.
I've never known an industry that can get into people's blood the way aviation does. — Robert Six, founder of Continental Airlines
I am sure Luchtzakers will have more. Please share them.

The most funny one is this one in the movie "Airplane" with Leslie Nielsen...
The FA says:"Sir we need you in the cockpit", to a pasenger who was a pilot in the war.
"The cockpit??? What is it?
"It's the small room in front where the pilots sit, but that's not important right now!"
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."

This is one I heard myself:
One day in a plenum EAA - AEA, I was sitting to the right hand of my Vice President. The simultaneous translation system did not function well, and the association chairman was doing his opening speech in English.
So the Sabena VP is asking me: "Qu'est-ce qu'il dit?"*

*Keskeedee (Keskidi) "What is he saying" Actually he added: "Vous comprenez ce qu'il raconte?" (Do you understand what he is telling?). Our delegation leader was probably the only delegation leader who did not understand English, some did not speak it well, but undertstood it. Notice we were not representing Absurdistan's airline!
That too was belgian commercial aviation.

Look here what airlines meet about.
BTW: Here are some upcoming conferences:
AIRLINE PURCHASING EXPO 2005 --11-12 May, London , UK
Managing Aircraft Interiors Costs -- 9-10 November, London, UK
5th Aircraft Maintenance Outsourcing & Airline Purchasing Conference -- 9-10 November, San Diego, USA

Note: EAA was not the 'European Association of Archaeologists' although sometimes I had doubts....

"I do not believe it (the airplane) will
supplant surface transportation.
I believe it will be limited
to special purposes.
It will be a factor in war.
It may have a future as a carrier of mail."

-Wilbur Wright-

"To invent an airplane is nothing.
To build one is something.
To fly is everything."

-Otto Lilienthal

And the most recent one: it's about the A380: Moest Sabena nog bestaan, er zou er rap een in Brussel staan.

Read this one on jfktower.com

A Pilot's prayer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh controller, who sits in tower
Hallowed be thy sector.
Thy traffic come, thy instructions be done
On the ground as they are in the air.
Give us this day our radar vectors,
And forgive us our TCA incursions
As we forgive those f*ckers who cut us off on final.
And lead us not into adverse weather,
But deliver us our clearances.
Roger.
