How to discourage people posting spam in the forums ?

Post by luchtzak »

Today I noticed 1 nickname posting a few short message all followed with an url to visit a website (just for visiting or for buying stuff).

To discourage this people I suggest not to click on the links. The administration-team will remove them ASAP and the IP-adress that posted this kind of messages will be blocked from visiting the forums thus posting new spam messages.

Watch out with this solution Bart, not all providers give you a static IP.
It could be that you are blocking the wrong persons.

Best Regards,
Yvo

Dear luchtzak-members,

since a few days we have noticed an increase of spam-messages posted in the forums.

Please don't click on the url's!!

We will remove the url's ASAP if not the entire topic.

Perhaps you can make the registration a bit more time-consuming?

Dear Bart,

I would be against a tougher procedure. We don't want to discourage bona fide aviation fans.

Indeed André. In my opinion the registration-process is already rather time-consuming: you need to register, then wait for your activiation-mail then click the url, then login... Don't make it even more difficult ;)

Let's just try not to click on those links and wait till the admins delete those topics.

By the way, you admins are doing a good job because I never saw any spam topic lately.

I also would like to add this: please do not reply to such a spam message, just ignore it. Because answering such a message means more views, more people reading that shit, ...., and also more spam topics.

i think it best if anyone sees any spam they should immediately report it to the administrator(s) - or are administrators on watch 24/7? - what also comes to mind is that if they're not on watch 24/7 these spammers can do all their nasty work at night.

i still see 3 forums on the home page with spam content.

Yes, but when you click on the topic you will not see a topic nor the spam-message. As soon as it disappears from the front-page you will never see it again ;-)

We do our very best to reduce spam-messages to a minimum.

Unfortunately not. They have other duties: work or school. They also need some sleep. We do not live in an ideal world.

But keep reporting spam. Whoever is next on duty will remove it.

Today one of our members reported a SPAM-mail in his private message box. Thanks to the information I received (nickname + contents of the SPAM) I could locate 189 messages in the database sent to 189 different members. I removed all of them.

Remember this when you receive SPAM via www.luchtzak.be :

- don't open the website if mentioned,
- don't send mail if there is one mentioned,
- don't reply the message,
- report to Image ASAP with all the details that you can find (nickname + contents + ...) With the information we can track down all SPAM-messages and we can block IP-adresses and remove false accounts.
