female EasyJet pilot over legal alcohol limit

Post by LX-LGX »

According to a story in The Guardian, the female pilot of EZY3455 (from Berlin Schönefeld to Basle) from Saturday 8th Jan 2005 had drunk too much, and she wasn’t allow to fly the A319.

The flight was supposed to leave at 06h45 a.m. I usually only drink coffee that time of the day...

Very sad indeed. You can test many skills of the future pilots, but it's pretty difficult if not impossible to have the clues about his/her responsibility, future weaknesses and bad habits...
By the way. Less then two months ago, a Finnish captain has been jailed for six months(!) in Manchester under new UK legislation to tackle alcohol abuse in the aviation industry.
He had "only" 49mgs of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, compared to 106mgs/100ml of a female pilot. Will the easyJet pilot's verdict be proportional to this? Should it be?

This is indeed very sad to here.
Pilots that do things like this should be prohibeted of flying for a long time if you ask me.

This is playing around with other peoples life.

Best Regards,

She should be severely disciplined for this. There is no excuse for being drunk when pilots at easyJet know that they must not drink alcohol 10 hours before a flight.

(By the way, the headlines had to say about "female pilot" but with the Finnair captain it did not say "male pilot" just "captain").

Not exactly. Even worse. His name (and surname of course) with the photo were published in many newspapers (in the UK).

Is it that drinking before flights is spreading nowadays, or they are checking pilots more thoroughly?
