And maybe then a Singapore Airlines cargo A380 in Brussels in a few years??? :P

Seriously, is EBBR A380 ready? The runways are for sure, but what about the taxiways?

I think the Whisky taxiway has been larged (it is wider now) and runway 25R is longer. So I think BRU is counting for Singapore to operate the A380F to BRU

I hope everyone in Europe embraces the day Airbus unveils the magnificent A380-800! This is for sure a mighty significant day in the history of European aviation industry.

Do not think about the number of orders ore possible financial loss, think about the fact that European company has been able to built such a huge machine that hopefully will continue bring us closer to rest of the world.

And from the bottom of my hart; I am so sick of all these B747, same shape for over 30 years now is enough!

Take care!

It' done, they got it:
Monday January 10, 2:33 PM EST
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan 10, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Moving to expand the
capacity of its air network to accommodate strong international growth, UPS
(UPS) today announced a firm order for 10 A380 super-jumbo freighter
aircraft made by Airbus.

In a related decision, UPS and Airbus have agreed to amend a previous order
for A300 aircraft.

"The A380 will allow UPS to effectively meet the fast-growing demands of our
customers across a variety of global trade lanes," said John Beystehner, UPS
chief operating officer and president of UPS Airlines. "This plane offers an
exciting combination of payload and range that will help improve both the
capability and efficiency of our international network."

"We are extraordinarily pleased to have UPS join the growing list of A380
customers, particularly because their order demonstrates the strength of the
aircraft as a freighter for air carriers based around the world," said Noel
Forgeard, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer.

Deliveries of UPS's A380s are scheduled to begin in 2009 and run through
2012. The order also gives UPS the option to purchase 10 more of the planes.
The purchase price of the aircraft was not disclosed. UPS has not yet made
an engine selection for the A380.

Under the agreement regarding A300 aircraft, UPS is reducing its previous
order for 90 planes to 53. To date, 40 A300s have been delivered and the
remaining 13 will be delivered by July 2006.

The A380 has the capacity to carry three decks of cargo with container
capacity of nearly 40,000 cubic feet and a maximum structural payload of
330,000 pounds. With a range of 5,600 nautical miles, the A380 can fly
non-stop to places around the world that used to take two or more flights.

UPS's international business has been very strong. During the third quarter
of 2004, for example, UPS's total international export volume climbed 13.2%
over the prior-year period. Asia export volume increased 29% and export
volume out of China more than doubled compared to the prior year.

"We continually evaluate and adjust the company's air network to meet the
needs of our customers," Beystehner added. "Our strong international growth
has increased our need for larger aircraft and the super jumbo is part of
that solution."
Good new for airbus!!!
But on the other hand thy lost 37 A300.

Well well well, dear friends,
some months ago with the crash in Canada and talking about old dirty dangerous russian cargo airplanes landing in Ostend, I made a remark about UPS being a customer for new cargo planes.
With this in mind, I don't mind to see DHL being banned from Brussels . Let a decent company , with respect for the environment take over.

I think the aircraft manufactures perhaps should make cheaper versions of there passenger aircraft in cargo version so they can fill there order books and save the environment. As it is today, it’s very expensive to buy new cargo planes and the manufactures sees the market as a chance to make even more money of a plane that can’t be sold as a passenger jet.
Perhaps the best would be to make pure cargo planes instead of making cargo plans out of old passenger jets. All cargo carriers have to se a benefit with planes made only for cargo!

Hello Dear friends.

I fully agree with these two people.

Haflinger:
And maybe then a Singapore Airlines cargo A380 in Brussels in a few years???
Yabu(Also Yannick ;D)
well i think that's a realistic view for the future to see an singapore A380F over here. EBBR is ready for the A380 so there should be no problem. Cant wait.
I indeed think that it is possible to see A380F's withing (2/3 years?) at BRU.
At least if Singapore airlines Cargo stays loyal to BRU, and if they do
expand their flights at BRU.
This two texts confirm my hope that i had when the idea of the 38F was launched , that IF there was ever going to come an 380 to BRU , that it
would be a SQ Cargo, since that airline have ordered several planes.
And about the question whetter BRU is ready for the A380? Well on my opinion it must be. As told before , now that they have recently renewed
the runways (or at least a part of them) , they must have realised that there is a possibility that BRU will receive A380's , so they probably calculated it in the renewing. Taxiway Wisky should be ready for it too.
The deck is probably mader thicker and it's surely wider. About the wingspan, well it should fit in it . But it will be real close to the wall.
(does anybody knows ? Imagine a 747 taxiing right in the middle of Taxiway Wisky...right infront of the wall...how far would he's wing be away from the wall????)
And maybe even when a pax A380 can't fit at any gate, i think there is a possibility that they park it at the apron next to the C/D dock since they renewed this apron (in the great airport works), they might also have calculated the fact in it , that there ever might stand an A380.

That's what i hope, and what i would have done if it was my airport.

Best regards: Yannick :D :D :D

United Parcel Service has placed an order for 10 Airbus A380 Freighters. The aircraft are scheduled to be delivered from 2009 through 2012. The airline also took options on 10 additional aircraft.
On the other hand UPS will be reducing its order for 90 Airbus A300 Freighters down to 53 aircraft ; 40 of those aircraft have already been delivered with the 13 remaining to arrive by July of 2006.
Aum Sweet Aum.
