Boeing gets a big 7E7 order

I agree with you KNIGHT225 on the fact that Airbus and Boeing have different views on how the future of air travel will evolve but lets not forget that Airbus will have the A350 as a competitor to the B7E7, in fact it will do just about the same thing, and who knows if not better. So In other words Airbus will have two battle fronts, while Boeing will have to wait to see if their theory is correct. In the case that Airbuses theory turns out to be the most correct than Boeing responce may be too little too late.
In the long run the A330/A340 may suffer as a result of the A350.
Althought when faced with a new revolutionary product like the 7E7, Airbus had to react quickly and they did. The only battle front in which Airbus is not responding to is the 7E7-300. I beleive that the A350 will also have an impact on the 777 sales.

I disagree with the A350 having an impact on 777 sales. The -200 seats ~300 in a three class configuration and the A350 seats what, about 245-280?? That's a bigger difference than the A340-300 (~295 pax.) and even bigger compared to the -200 (~260 pax.). I think the 777-200 will still have life left in it once the A350 is introduced.

The Airbus A350-900 may be a logical decision for airlines that already operate the A330/A340 but need additional range and that dont quite require the capacity offered by the 777-200. With improved operational savings the A350-900 way look quite attractive up against the 777.
Ill give you one example NWA opted for the A330 as it has about the the same capacity as their DC 10.

They're just using that to get the pilot's attention. Continental is in the best financial situation of all of the U.S. legacy carriers. They are hiring back furloughed pilots (the only airline to do so in the U.S.). If they can secure a few more concessions, there should be no threat to the order.

A350 will not compete with A330 and A340 but will replace them.knight255 wrote:Interesting enough though, the A350 will not only be competing with the 7E7, but also the A330 and the smaller versions of the A340. Why Airbus is competing against itself, I don't know.
A340-200 isn't in production anymore.
A340-300 isn't selling well. It have been killed by B777-200ER and ETOPS rules. (the comsumption is higher on a quadri, not to mention maintenance costs)
A350-800 is a A330-200NG like
A350-900 is a A330-300NG like
A350-900 competes directly with B777-200ER
