A380 or not, they are coming to Brussels, creating a nice link between UAE, Brussels and Toronto, and also one to Asia. When you take a look at airliners.net, you'll notice they like to switch equipment (A330 - A340) so probably we will see both of them over here.

Next problem is to find a perfect pushbar...
1 stand will be enough, as the A380 transittime will not exceed 2h hours and that gives 8 daily slots for A380...
And then they can use that one push-towbar?

 Luchtak Rocks Bart

I think many leading media and news papers take our information and then getting a cue from it, work on their stories

Sorry friends, but nothing is sure about Etihiad in Brussels. The only thing they did was asking slots. But how many airline company's didn't ask slots for BRU last years? Remember easyJet two years ago, and so many others ...

Hi Lumumba,

The only thing that De Tijd wrote was the news about the slots. And Belga and VRT took over the news from the newspaper....

Etihad should offer good connections to BKK and India. They're doing quite well on the GVA-AUH route because they offer good connection and prices to BKK.
Look at this site: http://www.laperlenoire.ch/ey.htm (sorry only in french)
BTW, Etihad doesn't fly to JNB.

Then why would Etihad post job offers in BIAC website...

Ladies & gentlemen,

I once more confirm that Etihad Airways will start-up Brussels operations in a couple of months, and my source is nor BIAC, nor BSC and certainly not the press.

I truly try to understand your scepticism, but negative vibes are never that far away when a particular airline plans to launch Brussels services. It's always the same systematic kind of interpretation around here. Is there a market? How long will it last before they drop Brussels? Almost never do I detect a bit of hope, faith or determination, just never ending scepticism.

Do you really think that an airline launches Brussels services if the market prospect would be as good as hopeless? The customers determine if there is a market or not, not the airport, nor the operating airline itself, or any kind of statistic. The best that an airline can do is offer a good product, proper marketing & sales, acceptable schedules, reasonable connections & fares, and most importantly a direct airlink. The rest is up to the - potential - customers. When a certain market ex-Brussels is not stimulated or activated, it will remain dead or better yet, it will develop elsewhere.

I suggest to the non-believers that they wait until the moment comes that your beloved main Brussels carrier SN Brussels Airlines starts-up new intercontinental services, outside Africa and operated with their own equipment. Give me a sign when the wait is over ...

You will not be surprised that I do not share your pessimistic view. Most people in this forum were enthusiastic, if not over-enthusiastic, about the Etihad news of a link between Brussels and Abu Dhabi.

Themole, you have an unequaled inside knowledge in this matter: could you please answer the question of 5th freedom rights between BRU and YYZ? That would also be an excellent news that I would greet with great enthusiasm.

Many thanks to "themole" for saying outloud what many...many people think.

(But don't worry : Belgians tend to be more pessimistic about every fact of life and like to question everything more than any other average European.)

Talking about scepticism? Or is that sceptical tunnel vision by a knee-jerk sceptic?

It would make sense for Etihad to have AUH-BRU-YYZ, since they can cater to the large number of immigrants from the Indian subcontinent. They represent 50% of Aeroflot's YYZ-SVO PAX, a good percentage of BA & LH PAX (out of YYZ), and Air Canada is doing great business on YYZ-DEL route.

The spotters are indeed very enthusiastic. Unfortunately they usually spot aircraft from the outside, not from the inside by actually buying a ticket.

I read on this and on other forums that there seems to be a lot of confusion between 5th freedom and 6th freedom traffic rights? I will elaborate the difference, using the assumed Abu Dhabi-Brussels-Toronto routing.

5th Freedom: allows an airline to carry pax on the Abu Dhabi-Toronto, Abu Dhabi-Brussels and Brussels-Toronto sectors.
6th Freedom: allows an airline to carry pax on the Abu Dhabi-Toronto and Abu Dhabi-Brussels sectors, not on the Brussels-Toronto sector.

Etihad Airways clinched 5th freedom traffic rights.

No need to thank me, TWA. I am used to be the devil's advocate around here.
SN30952 wrote:Talking about scepticism? Or is that sceptical tunnel vision by a knee-jerk sceptic?
The remark I made about SN Brussels Airlines is not even scepticism, it is realism. Me, a tunnel vision? I can honestly claim that my vision on the airline business is one of the most innovative around, and my record proves it! Anyway, before my integrity and know-how is being scandalized or questioned again, I better stop here before some people take this as an opportunity to start a "themole" riot again.

Anyway Fons, unlike you, I do not conduct business from under a Thai palm tree, with a retired cockpit vision in your case. By the way, may I ask why you insult me with calling me a knee-jerk sceptic?

For those who do not know what knee-jerk means:

Knee-jerk: Adjective meaning readily predictable to the point of being automatic. Knee-jerk often has a negative connotation and conveys the idea of an all-too-hasty, impulsive, irrational response based on a preset idea. For example, a dictator's knee-jerk response to a democratic movement is to suppress it.

Thank you Fons!

a- we don't use this word often
b- definitions
One of my dictionaries says: adj a knee-jerk reaction, opinion etc is what you feel or say about a situation from habit, without thinking about it. (Longman) 8)
Merriam Webster says:
adjective: readily predictable : AUTOMATIC <knee-jerk reactions>; also : reacting in a readily predictable way <knee-jerk liberals> 8)
The Cambridge Dictionary says: knee-jerk reaction/response, etc. an immediate reaction that does not allow you time to consider something carefully. 8)
c- questions
Where did you got your definition from? Are you still using your KGB dictionary, themole?
