Schiphol spotting terrace
When I was at Amsterdam/Schiphol (AMS/EHAM) yesterday, the 23rd of October 2004, I was shocked to find out that there has been introduced an entrance fee of 1 Euro. 8O
Whilst I have no problem with paying a Euro for using this great facility that is provided to me by the airport, I do wonder why they introduced it now, because since the last time I was there (26-06-2004) there was no entrance fee. Is it because they want to make some money on this one, or to earn back the cost of the constructing the supurb terrace?
Does anyone have an idea why they introduced the fee now, and why didn't the airport authority that before?

Don't get me wrong; I don't have a problem with paying a fee, so that the fabulous Amsterdam terrace can be available for us, I just wondered why now, and not some years ago.
@VonSchmalhausen, maybe you could write a letter to the Brussel Aviation Authority, with a proposal of how things could be done, or make a list of signatures that support the idea of a spotters terrace to show that there is a demand.
Maybe an action could be coordinated through luchtzak, or (Belgian) aviation-/friends/organizations/sites could join forces to achieve a spotting terrace.
Maybe when the airport authority sees that there is a demand, or that they even get a proposal/plan for a spotting terrace, they will consider things.

Hi guys,
the main reason for the 1 euro admittance fee, is for the fact that the Panorama Deck will be extended. In a few months time it will be possible to walk over the D-pier (that's the one in front of the restaurant). And if the rumours are correct there is even a possibility to make an excursion to the old control tower, at the cross section of the D-pier.
So I don't mind to pay the 1 euro fee, because the Panorama Deck will be even better than it is now!!!
Greetings,
Marius
P.s. this information can be found on the Scramble Message Board. It was mentioned on it a few weeks ago!!)

Hello folks!
I do agree that it is better to pay to visit a terrace than not having one.
But i also understand the questioning about why it would cost €1 suddenly.
Well , as said before probably to earn back some construction costs. You
can also invest that money in anti-airport-terror safety. Wich could be
important if you own a terrace from wich you can almost touch the planes.
By the way , why wouldn't airports make an attraction of spotting? They
might get some profit out of it , and learn to understand us and like us more.
Brussels should have that kind of a terrace too. (too bad the C and D dock-terrace is closed) but i would rather prefere a terrace on the B-dock.
Because since the C-console is as good as empty and the D-dock only
provides stands for small planes , wile the B-dock welcomes planes like;
RAM 744 , AA 763's , CO 764, DL 763's , BG D1C, HBA L15 , and several
other interesting planes, so...
In every case; B744skipper , enjoy paying the fee , now it still is possible
to visit the terrace.
Merry Christmas: Yannick

I was going through these posts and feel that you all people above are so priviledged. For a cost of 1Euro (Roughly about Rupees 50) in India.
Irony is that in all airports in INDIA you have an AIRPORT AUTHORITY OF INDIA which charges you Rs. 50 for 4 hours, (Roughly about 1 Euro) to a place where you can either see your loved ones coming or see them depart. Neither can you spot a plane or rest assured see any aircrafts from the place where you are.
