What Are You Drinking at Christmas?

Post by Comet »

Here in Scarborough we always make an effort to have a special beer at Christmas. So far the most Christmassy one we have had is Bush Noel, but the local joke shop doesn't stock this, so we have to make do with ordinary Bush (unless like me you get Bush Blonde from Brussels )

Is anyone here having a good beer at Christmas, bearing in mind the fact that you have access to such beauties as Tongerlo Christmas, Bush Noel and Palm Dobbel?

I don't know what I'm drinking yet, but it will be a choice from Tongerlo Dubbel, Bush Blonde and Adriaen Brouwer.

There is no such thing as an ordinary Bush. All of them are GREAT!

We shall drink a nice small bottle of Sauternes to accompany some Upignac foie gras on Christmas eve.

By "ordinary Bush" I mean the regular Amber, the 12% one, and not the Noel one. I adore Bush.

And what is that you're drinking?

I didn't start this thread to have an argument about beer, I was just showing friendly interest and maybe get some ideas for new ones to try

Sauternes? The greatest white wine of Bordeaux, with a sweet taste to accompany desserts or 'foie gras'.

Very nice Andre. I'm not as much into wine as beer, we are having a red Penfolds with the pheasant (or woodpigeon or partridge, haven't decided yet) and a white wine with the guinea fowl. I don't take much notice of wine types at all.

Now beer is a different matter...

And I forgot the special sweet white wine we always drink with our Christmas pudding. The beer is always savoured at night when the dog has been brought back from his walk.

Well, as they say here (in Dutch):
Bier na wijn is azijn (or venijn)
Wijn na bier is plezier.

Beer after wine is vinegar (or poison)
Wine after beer is pleasure.

As I start with wine, I stay with wine.

The beer will come another day (Bush de Noël and Gordon Christmas)

I like Duvel and I like Palm, Gordon Christmas I have not tried :(

My pre-Christmas beer was a Maes last night. On Christmas Eve we always have a glass of Port with a mince pie, or some Christmas cake and crumbly white cheese.

Our Christmas beer for this year will be Adriaen Brouwer from Roman. That is the second year running that a Roman beer has been selected as our Christmas beer :drink:

Cheers, Walter. So no water, but a Tusker, or a White Cap?
I always enjoyed the Guiness from Mombasa. They still produce it?
And what lucky we were working with an airline, because the beer in Rwanda/Burundi was brewed by the Dutch group Heineken., so we had ours coming from home. Ugandan beer was potable.
In Nigeria, it were Belgian (Stella Artois) brewers, with an excellent beer for the boiling hot weather in Lagos.
In Bombay it was Cobra, Kingfisher or Taj Mahal. But the best drink there always was a zingy Bombay Gin and (Indian) tonic, zested and on ice.
In Thailand they drink everything on ice: beer, wine, coke, Sprite, tea , coffee.... Lucky the Kingdom has good neigbours: Burma imports good Australian and S. African wines. Laos does that with French wines, and Malaysia is brewing excellent beers. From the Philippines comes fine Rum.
You don't hear any complain from this one, particularly in a country with 3 New Years*. A Western, a Thai and a Chinese. Cheers

*That's why your season decoration and lights probably come from Thailand.

A good Belgian beer (I prefer a Kriek or a Duvel) or ron arehucas (best rum in the world made in Gran Canaria)

Cheers :D

Duvel is a great beer to have when the weather is hot, I always enjoy one in the summer. In the winter when it is cold I prefer a darker beer because they don't have to be chilled down as much and they are warming.

And I like rum in the sauce over my Christmas pudding
