Glad to hear you enjoy your Bush Rago :lol:

I just have to drink it slowly to appreciate that lovely toffee-ish hint you get with Bush (a similar tasting beer is brewed in Scotland called Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer).

Tomorrow we are having Brigand - but just the one :drink:

And I still don't know what we will drink at Christmas. Bush Noel is impossible to get here :(

I read some alarming news today that global warming is having an adverse effect on hops grown in the UK (I don't know about those grown in other countries, but I imagine they would be affected as well).

This could have serious consequences for brewers of our favourite tipples could it not? :( :(

One of the types affected I understand are the Kent Goldings, which are used in Orval. Not good news for Orval lovers I think? :lol: (sorry, I don't like Orval!)

Goldings contribute the distinctive Orval "taste", this beer also uses Saaz and a German hop. Saaz is used in Duvel, Hapkin and Piraat, to name three, but they don't have that disgusting aftertaste you get with orval.

Another brew which uses Goldings is Ara Bier, it does have some bitterness reminiscent of Orval in the aftertaste, but it does not have that same intense concentration of bitterness which makes Orval undrinkable. Ara Bier is obviously hopped with Goldings in extreme moderation :lol:

I like a country that likes its beer!

Stella in Australia is one of the most expensive, and considered one of the best imported beers.(About $20 Au for a six pack)

The most popular beer here is called XXXX (yes Fourex), so that gives an idea of our tastes in beer.

Ruscoe - I've never tried XXXX, and you Australians are lucky to get the genuine (I assume?) Stella.

I have never had a true Australian beer, the "Foster Export" and "Foster Ice" we get here are brewed in Edinburgh :( I used to enjoy drining the Foster Ice on a hot day, it is a wonderfully refreshing beer I think. It has to be better than Hoegaarden, which is soapy.

Same with Kronenbourg - the 1664 we get here is brewed in Edinburgh, but in Paris a couple of years ago I had the pleasure of trying the genuine article, and not only is it stronger than the fake crap brewed in Edinburgh, it also tastes better.

Having looked on Sainsbury's online shopping page to see their range of beers, I have to say I despair about the total ignorance the British have about Belgian beer.

Since when has Leffe Blonde been a lager :?: :evil:

Well I have far better tastes than a certain other person who shall remain anonymous but who claims he likes Orval. At least Sloeber tastes like beer!

In fact it’s very simple. You cannot discuss colours and taste. I am sure André knows the translation in French. “Les goûts et les coleurs ne se discutte pas”. Also Charles De Gaulle has something similar about the French people, and André please help me with this one J. A country with so many different wines and cheeses…

Wine, whisky, cognac, is like beer, you like a brand or not, very simple. You can only discuss what is behind a beer, wine from the same year, made. It has … more fruit, more or less this or that, you name it. You should try a blind tasting, you could be surprised J

And you could have a blind tasting - fill a glass with puke and then drink it blindfold - you would think it was Orval :lol: :lol: :lol:

And I'm having Rochefort 8 tonight :drink: Beautiful beer!

Rochefort = greatest Trappist beers (especially the 10!)

Be not too surprised when you drink a Rochefort blindfolted and think it's puke :-)

Don't like Rochefort then Athos? What a disappointment when I was beginning to think you were a connoisseur of beer :lol:

Rochefort brews very fine beer, I particularly enjoyed my 8 last night :drink:

Contenders for our Christmas beer this year - Bush Blonde, Tongerlo Dubbel and the current runaway favourite Adriaen Brouwer! Ename Dubbel is not counted because we had some in September and we like to have something new at Christmas!

What a disappointment when I was beginning to think you were a connoisseur of beer

What I said was try to tast blindfolded, really you could be very surprised :-)

I like beer when it's before, half time or the end of a soccer game my twin, 15 years old play, when I'm working in my garden, Leffe dark mmm :-)

But I prefer wine. Tonight oysters, and hind.
Wine: "Couvent des Jacobins 1998", and I can tell you jummie :-)
